I always have that problem too, I got one pullet from 18 eggs and one roo from another 12. I guess the the risk we take. Very expensive chickens huh

Oh, good grief .... today I rebanded all my BCMarans, and put on their final adult sized bands. Let me just say, I have some of the absolute worst looking roosters ever! I do not even see one really promising one, and I have alot of them! They are a mess! I will be filling my freezer with most of them very soon. One is nearly totally black, with just a hint of copper in the hackles. He is just huge, and so sweet. I really like this guy, but .....

On a better note, I do have one beautiful Blue Marans roo! He is gorgeous, as are the 4 blue pullets and 2 splash gals. I have a second blue roo, and I really love his size, but he has just a tad bit of copper in the hackles. I don't want that. Since I have now penned them separately, I noticed that it is my blue gals that are laying the very pretty dark glossy ruby eggs, and I really like those.

I will try to get pictures this week, and post some really poor examples of Black Copper Marans!

) I found a local breeder and got a black copper chick

Unfortunately they were straight run, so we went thru them to find the most "girlish" of the bunch
