A lot of weird stuff shows up on the wade line... My guess is it is that the color hasn't traveled down the feather shaft yet..No worries... It is a black bird not cuckoo. I usually see it with wing feather but have seen it show up in other places to include feet.. Don't cull unless it doesn't dissappear... but in your marans baby book... Make a note of it... especially if it is a cockerel and this could be a pivotal point where choices are made later.

Yep, all the more reason I find Black Copper Marans SO fascinating. . . There's so much to know, learn, keep track of, and try.

One of the reasons I'm keeping more than one BC roo for my girls, and also why I'm penning the roos seperately to later sample each one. and see how they carry out.

I certainly am loving the Wheatens and Blue Wheatens challenge too, but Bev's originals on her site look so much more pretty than my Cree Wheaten parent stock.

And, they're not as friendly. . . I mean, I got 6 Wheatens and Blue Wheatens from her plus an extra Black Copper from Lisa Cree that were 4 weeks old. . . The Black Copper is actually quite the brave pullet, but the Wheaties/Blue Wheaties are still pretty shy. You should see me try and catch one.

One could be... well this is a far stretch here.. Creedence Clear-Wader Survivor CCS instead of CCR... he he Now I need CPR... (okay... I know that was corny)...

I have lots of name ideas for those girls, but they all relate to desserts. . .

I mean sheesh, my Brahma that lays pink eggs speckled with red or purple is named Cheesecake.

You called it.. they are the last of the Cree line... They could be green and I would find a roo to go with them.. Yes they need the right roo with them...It doesn't help things that their feathers are tired and due for molt. The egg color is there and I have offspring from them that are correct and good advice from the breeder but yep they are the light black w/o the green tint. (I dont' think I would call them brown...just looks that way because of tired feathers in serious need of molt).... But the egg color... Wow...Not bad for stressed birds in a car for 10 hours.
