Alright, I am so torn. I am struggling to decide what roos to keep. Out of 11 day old chicks, 8 turned out to be roos...my luck (unless anyone suspects that any of the birds below could still be pullets).

They are 10 weeks old and I have kept the best roos and they are living on my friends property (outside city limits). So far these are the 4 I have left--aside from the all black one who is breaking too light in the hackles and the one who has a little too much copper in the breast they all still look pretty good to me. Should I keep the other 2 just in case? Geebs--be honest with me if you think any of these could still be girls!!

I guess I just need some reassurance in my decision not to keep these boys. Who thought it would be this hard!!!

I know Marty should have copper speckles in his breast but I really like the all black breast. Are they saying this throws Wheaton chicks cause I have never hatched one from him, I have hatched out 2-3 mossie ones but not recently, and I lost a hen this year so it may have been from her. He does throw boys with copper in the chest but not a lot of it. Other than that and his tail being a little long what is the consensus on his quality?

I just placed Gorilla Monsoon with a fellow UOC member and BYCer yesterday. Julie had Gorilla's brother last year, and wanted him IF he became available. Well he is happily over in his new home.
Adios Gorilla, have a great life.

A Kevin Jean C-1 egg I hatched last year produced Reggie. Reggie is great with younger chicks. I grow out my Buff Orps in his pen.

Reggie has a boy. Rocko. He is a December hatch with a Ray Valentine pullet. Classic Reggie with the feathered shanks

I now have had Marans for one year. I am only using the Ray V girl cause of the feathered legs and her egg color. This is what she has down so far. Hope to be going in the right direction with my young ones.

Geebs thanks so much for being an enabler! I cannot wait for my eggs from Lori and I had a surprise from a hatch of Silver CMs could I get lucky and get a Golden? They are from Bill Braden and Kelly Cratty lines beautiful egg color well so far these are the nicest eggs I have ever gotten to hatch.

Your welcome.. I hope you get the egg that lays a golden goose (chicken)... ha ha

Hey that little blue Ameraucana female in the last pic with my Black copper guy, is one of your babies from eggs I bought from you.
Here is my favorite Blue Ameraucana Roo from that same batch of your eggs. He is a big ol sweetie that sticks to me like glue and tries to get in every pic.

Thank you gardengirl, he is originally from a local lady down in Nashville IN. Betty Jo Aldrich. He and his bro are my first Marans. I have 2 of Ray V's Birchen girls to take to him. They lay a lite egg. Bruno comes from a decently darker egg. Near 5 or 6 on the Marans egg color scale. I had one test hatch to see what came out. I have one of Bruno's boys from a test hatch so far. And plan on trying him again this August. Here in Indy the later hatches are better for keeping combs from freezing cause their immature. My Marans suffer the most due to the larger combs.
