Welcome Terri!

Yes some have feathered shanks and some do not. Has something to do with the English type and the French type, the French breed birds with feathered shanks and the English did not. I am not good with the exact history behind this and it is pretty early for me today (stayed up way too late last night for a movie-thon with my DH) hoping someone that can explain it better for you comes along.

Do you have a photo of him to share?

Your sweet... Yep..he sure is nice.. I just don't do wheaton... I don't have the room...If I did he would be EXACTLY what I was looking for... The egg color would affect the whole program... As you know the Rooster is the cornerstone.. DRAT...I hope I don't have to eat him... It would be a crime. So glad to hear about neighbor boy... That is fantastic!!! Kids have to have a chance at the "good stuff".... Glad it was his turn. I wonder what would happen if I paired him off with a BC and sold as a pair of dark egg layers.. I could send the same breeding hen... The colors would be BC and wheaton???? anyone know???

This is how I believe it would be:
If the hen is a BC and not carrying the recessive Wheaten, then the peeps would all be BC and carrying Wheaten. Those offspring, if bred together or back to the Wheaten father, would be 50/50 BC and Wheaten. I can be wrong a lot.

Are you located anywhere near Red Bluff/Redding? I have one Wheaten pullet which came from dark egg BC stock as well as a bunch of Easter Eggers who would match up nicely with him.

I am in Oregon... near Portland... I would gladly give him to you if you can get him to ya..
