I had to assist several yesterday. Not sure why they had trouble zipping. Membranes were extra tough. But I ended up with 8 out of 10 lavender orpingtons, 5 of 6 bantam cochins, and the single silver duckwing OEGB that made it to lockdown hatched! Due next weekend - 2 (?) more silver duckwings, 3 self-blue OEGBs and 2 Ohikis. Although I suspect one of the Ohikis might quit before then. The following week is my 23 call ducklings!! And sometime in between all that are 3 broodies sitting on Seramas and chocolate orpingtons!

And what do you do in all your spare time?? . Seriously, a big congratulations!!! Assisted hatching makes me a nervous wreck every time - so helping all those beautiful precious chicks? You're a talented chicken mamma for sure!!!

Well thanks! It does get less worrisome, the more ya do it. Yesterday I was like "Really?? You're gonna make me help you out?"

I'm sure the Call ducks will change my perspective... again! I'm going to be so nervous.

Sooooo...a somewhat bad habit of mine is to "low bid" on eBay for hatching eggs from breeds I already have (thinking to myself that adding a little new blood is a good thing, and If I can get a decent price, then if only 1 or 2 hatch I'm ahead) . I do it so often, and rarely win anything, that I forget about them. Last night, just as I was getting ready to turn in, I quickly checked email, and there was a "YOU WON" notice!! 10+ Bielefelder eggs will be headed my way this week!! Wahoo!

Jealous...LOL....I am trying to get Bielefelders. Want to keep my mixed flock and build a breeding flock.

Lockdown finished from 19 eggs tossed 2 not got the whole jest of this candling down yet a few ifs in the bunch but also collected after the attack with no Roo in the yard so my prognoses if I get 5 I'll be suprised and happy. Then onto my EEs for Easter!! If all goes well I'll be putting up a dozen EEs a dozen variety including RIRs, Dons, and maybe some ROs and then I'm adding since I have had roosters now for two weeks at least a dozen of mine so at least 36 or if I'm lucky I'll try to place 48 in the cooker and have my first rack full!

Exactly what I'm working on. So far, I love my Bieles - very good natured and my rooster is mellow (I'd like to add another roo though, so this one doesn't get a god complex). Hoping in a year to have enough of them to do a little breeding project.

Who do you consider best to bid on on EBay? I put 2 of Skywalkers auctions on my watchlist and a couple others. Since I am getting ready for lockdown and hopefully have learned a lot....considering resetting that 'bator next week.

I candled last night (day 8) and took out 4 more araucana eggs. This leaves me with 12 developing araucanas. I still have no idea about the BCM eggs. Too dark. Just going to treat them like they are all good even though I'm sure there are some duds in there. I just keep questioning myself when i think I need to toss one. Ha ha.the 2 Jersey giants I threw in just to do it are going strong.
