March 2023 hatch-a-long

Pics
my hatching day should be march 13th
do i have a hatching buddy here?

Mine are due the 13th -- mostly. I set the hatch fairly late in the evening.

Candled quickly last night (day 12 I believe). Still all wiggling in there. What days does everyone usually end up finding quitters? I have to say I'm actually surprised that I started with 12 eggs, and so far only gotten rid of a single egg (clear).

Mine are mostly spread out.

I have had an unfortunate number of late dead-in-shell chicks that may or may not have had internal pips. I'm trying to tweak my humidity to improve this, but I expect continued hatchability improvements as I breed forward through the generations. :)

I took 14 chicks out this morning. One is still trying to hatch. I just couldn't tell if all had hatched or not. That is the only bad thing about this incubator. You can't see what is happening in the back. But 14 out of 15 chicks is not bad. And who knows, maybe the last one will make it too until tomorrow morning. After that he or she is out of luck. Tomorrow morning those chicks will get their Marek immunization. And I will turn off the machine.

What type of chickens are your hatchlings?

Question about lockdown
Do you guys take them all out and just set them that the side when you prepare the Bator for lockdown ?
Do you cover them with something to keep them warm or it's not needed

Do you take time to candle them then put them back in ?

I feel like everytime I candle I get worried about temp drop so I try to take one out and do it quickly and put it back. Lots of times I lost track of forgot to take notes ...

How long does it usually take you guys to do the whole candling each time

Thanks
If I have a lot of eggs to candle, I try to be quick bc it is open longer and they hold heat less (it seems) when the embryo is small. I don’t worry about it too much, though. I candle pretty often so I only candle the ones I was wondering about at lockdown and remove ones I’m positive are dead. Only time I open after that is to get the humidity up again, and I TRY to take them out quickly in batches (one at a time since I take a picture and band a leg, which takes longer than just grabbing the hatched ones and putting them in a basket). And then wait till I have a good amount to remove again. I also try to time it so nobody is zipping when I open. I do hatch in cut down egg cartons and use an egg turner so the process at lockdown for me is getting my second incubator set up, separating by various parentage, putting them in cartons, and removing the turner. I try to be all set up before I open the incubator so I’m not fumbling and rushing.

Mine should be somewhere between 13th and 15th.

10 out of the original 18 still developing, not the worst from shipped eggs! Shocked all the serama eggs are still going... hopefully at least a few hatch 🤞
that is good for shipped eggs. Most say shipped you get about 50%. I am at 11/18 for my shipped (normally this seller is higher than that but still really good results so far!)
