March 2023 hatch-a-long

Pics
I removed obvious clears. Down to 22 in the incubator but pretty sure only 18 are developing.

Ordered more eggs since only one lavender orp is developing. The caramel laced chocolate Orpington are on strike with laying so couldn't get those.

Well the 17 ducks for my friend are doing fabulous. I have 7 of my own for this lockdown and so far EVERYONE is doing great. I don’t know about all the eggs though. Some are doing better than others and some I just can’t really see well enough to know one way or another. I have 10 more days for lockdown for the ducks, and I can NOT wait! When I candled today I can see their little feet just a moving!!

I would love pygmy goats!!!! My husband asked for one but when I let him know you need 2 he changed his mind. Mini cows would be great too .. ok ok just a huge farm with a couple of everything. Lmao but alas I need more land for that. Lol. I grew up with chickens, rabbits, a couple ducks. At one point had a few homing pigeons. We were going to get pygmy goats but never did
That's what I want too lol
I want to add babydoll sheeps but decided to wait another year for it. I'm adding a bunch of things on my boyfriend's list 😂😂
And now I'm debating if I should get some turkeys lol and looking to get couple of embden Goslings next month too 😂😂

Question about lockdown
Do you guys take them all out and just set them that the side when you prepare the Bator for lockdown ?
Do you cover them with something to keep them warm or it's not needed

Do you take time to candle them then put them back in ?

I feel like everytime I candle I get worried about temp drop so I try to take one out and do it quickly and put it back. Lots of times I lost track of forgot to take notes ...

How long does it usually take you guys to do the whole candling each time

Thanks

for lockdown where I have an NR360 and need to take the turner out and I put a shelf liner on the bottom I take out all the eggs, Candle them, mark air cells and put an X in the part that slopes so I am sure to put that side up when I put them back in. Mama hens will get up off the nest to eat, drink and poop. sometimes it is quick sometimes it is an hour or so (in my experience), most times it is quicker but still about 30 min. So I don't worry about having them out to do this. I have never really times it for how long it takes but I know it isn't hours so I don't worry about it.

Thank you for your reply
I will definitely do the slope side thing this time. I was wondering how everyone can see their eggs pipping
This is my third time incubating. First time was a miserable fail lol I didn't know anything about incubating
I feel like everytime I open and candle them I was rushing it and trying to keep it really quick
Just did a quick candle ( I was trying not to candle till day 14 or 18 and today is day 10 and I did a full candling on the 7th day. ) But it's so hard lol I did a quick one yesterday and pulled a blood ring one and again today ( both were questionable at last candling )

I assume you would candle in your home where temps are not too chilli. So you do not need to worry about that. A broody hen does get up too usually once a day to eat, drink and poop.
