OK why can I picture you deconstructing your cabinet doors to put chicken wire on the fronts to have different compartments for growing out chicks until they are big enough to go into the "ginormous brooder" outside? Oh yeah, I can so see this in my head!

What is really disturbing is I CAN SEE IT TOO!

I rent this house. Probably shouldn't deconstruct the kitchen cabinets, but on Freecycle, I did see a six shelf, wooden bookcase... Bet I could use THAT!

Wait! Wait! I can go to the local Goodwill Store and look for wooden bookcases, without having to deal with strangers on Freecycle. That bookcase is probably gone, now, anyway.

Yes, I want to give hatching my own a try! I plan to set my first bunch in my new incubator on 2/27 or 2/28. I have a mixed assorted bunch ( One each of NH and EE roosters, my hens include Welsummers,NH, BLRW,Cuckoo Marans, and EE's) so it will be a grab bag of mutt chickens! All of the hens are pretty good layers so it's all good!

Hey, I live north of Covington in Bush...everyone around here seems to know it as the place where the House of Seafood is located. We also are about 25 minutes from Slidell up 41: It is nice to know a fellow BYC'er is in the neighborhood. My husband and I drove over to Bay St. Louis after Katrina and that entire area was completely devestated: I had never seen anything like it...even the lower 9th ward didn't compare. Did you live there then?

Anyway, yes, it is David. I have been emailing him...it is easier for me since I have lousy cell and home phone service. I'll PM you his phone and email in a few minutes. It is closer for us to go through Poplarville...is that a bad idea? We don't mind bumpy back roads (never know what you will find), but if their is some reason we should avoid this route, please let me know.

Yes I lived in Lakeshore, before and after Katrina. She actually made landfall just a few miles from us,over the mouth of the Pearl River between Pearlington and Clermont harbor. It still upsets all of us that New Orleans publicly got the worst hit while we physically got it. Theirs was man made ours natural...with a 35+ft tidal surge.I lived 6 miles from the beach and we got more than 12 ft of water. We were actually here during the storm. We came out to find horses in second story homes my boys pony was in the powerlines, cows washed out on the beach...None of us were able to take pictures because most of our homes were gone. And no one even attempted to come in with help for almost a week afterwards. Therefore what little documentation we have is after a few weeks when we were let back in once we got out.
Anyway,No poplarville isn't a bad idea, just a LOOnnggg ride..lol...one of those ones that seem to last forever cause it's so boring...lol...Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll contact him and try to ride up this weekiend.

Just put in 6 mystery duck eggs in the LG today. They came mailed from a barnyard mix, so it could get interesting if they hatch. I have never hatched before, but I have been reading. Glad to watch everyone else's progress and learn as I go.

I will be putting mine in tonight! Let the experiment begin!!

20 eggs that are 5 weeks old! they have been in my 50*F basement this whole time. After having a 60% hatch rate from the 2 week old eggs, I am very curious as to how these will do. They will be done in a dry hatch, then doing my best to boost humidity to 60-66%

I got mine today, will be putting in the incubator tomorrow. So day 21 will be March 4th (March Forth!). I'm joining in!
