March Hatch A Long... anyone with me??

Congrats to everyone w/ Pips/Zips/ and Cheepers!!

I have a question: Can I stack eggs ontop of other eggs that are in turners? My homemade incubator stopped working and I have my hova-bator filled to the brim, I had 14 eggs in my homemade 'bator, 7 of those went in my Brinsea, the other 7 are currently stacked in my Hova-Bator. I have Olive egger eggs coming tomorrow, and I have White Ameraucana eggs coming ( those will go in my brinsea since there are only 6 of them. ) I talked to a friend and asked her what she thought about it, and she said it was a bad idea to stack eggs on eachother..and I sort of agree w/ that. So then my other thought was to take out the turner and just have the eggs on the floor and just hand turn them. I have 5 broodies..but they all freaked out when I moved them today and I don't know if they'll keep setting or not? Or I thought I might try to make a incubator using a glass fish tank and a heat lamp???

So far I have the following:

43 due on the 6th got 35 hatched...81%
45 due on the 13th got 36 hatched...80%
63 due onthe 16th got 43 hatched...68%
70 due on the 20th got 58 hatched...83%
25 due on the 24th
49 due on the 30th

This gives me at total so far of 295 for March...
So far we are at a hatch rate of 176 of 221 so 80%...we must do better than that...

I would probably hand turn. Time consuming when you own a turner. I have eggs coming from a bunch of different people and I have two Eco 20's. Hoping I have enough room.

will the way you're stacking cause some of the eggs to be closer to the heating element than others?​

Today I'll take my turner out and put them all on their sides.

I used a Hovabator Genesis 1588 (forced air) with a 42 egg turner and set 50 eggs in it ~ 8 on top (marked with an X) ~ I had 2 clears and locked down 48 ~ as of yesterday I have 47 chicks hatched including all that were stacked on top. I don't think I would try it with a still air bator. Also the eggs that were stacked were all green eggs and are hard as rocks to crack! I originally thought that I would have more quitters and put the stacked ones in the turner, but it didn't work that way!

Some of the chicks ~ the rest were still drying in the bator...

Hatch is still happening. 14 chickies. One died. 1 pipping and zipping right now. 16 no action. sigh. We'll see!
