I set 46 eggs last night for my second go around for the year and I'm really hoping for better results this time. I went to TSC and purchased a new turner to maybe better my hatch percentage, also did some recalibrating on the thermometers too. So I'm in for the March Hatch-a-long and if all goes well, I might even go for an April hatch, we'll see how goes it.

I candled all 115 of my quail eggs....my count is down to 66. No big surprise though, I did set some pretty old eggs and a lot of them were very dirty. Surprisingly, most of the ones that were clear were clean ones

But it looks like I'll still have plenty of youngsters to take to the auction, if in fact it is this month

I always get a flyer in the mail for this, usually 3-4 weeks before. The auction is supposed to be the 27th of this month, from what I've heard, and still no flyer. I just hope I don't get stuck with these for a full month, and the auction is April instead of March. I hadn't planned on feeding all these babies quite that long!

I have 16 chicks in the brooder now, looks like the other egg left is a quitter - will leave it in today just in case. They are all so sweet.

I had eggs from a friends black/gold chickens with light sussex cockerel - any idea what breed they might be from pic? - they are the chicks that are black with gold heads !! and we had one white chick - is he a cockerel do u think?

I am also just waiting on my March 21 hatch. Busy tho' as I received word yesterday that my Beautiful Silver Lakenvelder eggs went in the mail yesterday.

I have to get an incubator ready!!

I have to replace the fan in the one I used for last week's hatch. The used cpu fan I had in it turned up it's toes day 22

I don't understand why. I installed it the first week in January and hadn't turned it off except to move the hatcher. That's just 7 weeks!!

I think I will invest in a new one this time.

I really feel the need to post a picture so will treat you to this. It is titled "Terminally Cute", which I fear may be literal. Will ask questions on the 'raising chicks' thread. Sorry about the out of focus pic - I'm not very good at closeups. It looked clear in the camera!

ok I candled the 4 eggs remaining in the incubator from my March Hatch:
2 obvious blood rings....
2 just quit, no obvious signs.
No internal pips
looks to have quit somewhere between 18-21.
