yaay! Glad you didn't miss anything. Good luck with the rest. I have 7 NN's, and 5 of the others..OE, Blue Andalusian mix, Leghorn mix with a lavender head! Some Black Ameraucana mixes.

Ok, a photo of my favorite NN. Who can say that this is ugly? I used to! lol..I love them now, they have to have the muff and the bow tie though. Still don't care much for the alll Naked Neck.

What kind of flashlight did you get? I'm new at hatching and I have a really hard time candling. I can't seem to see very well and not at all into the maran eggs!!

You can make a "window" with a Q-tip and vinegar. It will wash off the brown coating but the shell will still be pinkish. Still need a powerful light but it won't as hard.

I was at work today and had a brilliant brainstorm. I am working at a grocery chain in the produce department and was putting up apples. The loose apples come in boxes and have shaped trays that the apples rest in. Some of them are foam and other brands use paper pulp like paper eggcartons are made from. I had the vision of using a foam one in my Chestobator and putting a paper one on top of it when it came to lockdown. This way (if I wasn't filling the box to the gills) the little cups would hold the chicks/eggs and the paperpulp would soak up the wetness and the foam tray would protect the incubator from getting dirty.

One of my chicks that hatched last night looks like then when I woke up. Where it's like umbilical cord or something was, its got this big red sac like thing hanging out. Idk what to do for the poor thing. It seems otherwise fine. Up walking around dragging the thing behind it. Its leaking some sort of fluid, looks like urine. Another has a very small spot like that, but not hanging out really.

All I know to do for now. It was bleeding and sticking to the bedding. Its kinda adorable, in a pitiful little way!

Oh, and there's antibiotic cream slathered all in there, & I gave it some vitamins, incase it is yolk sac.
