It's been 5 1/2 days!!! This is only my 2nd hatch, and I'm so nervous! I candled a little on day 4 and I wish I hadn't. I cannot see ANYTHING in my Bantam Chocolate Orpington eggs that I paid a fortune for! I've never had bantams, r they more difficult to candle??

I have candled Silkie eggs and they are bantam sized. They were fairly easy to candle but day 5 is pretty early, don't worry yet! Wait until around day 9 before you candle again, you might be surprised! Hope you find wigglers next time you candle!

Congrats! So exciting to have so many still going. So close to your hatch date too! Woo hoo!

I candled again last night and pulled a bunch of clears. Not sure if the fertility rate is low in my flock or if it's because some of the eggs were stored for so long before setting them. Next time I store eggs before putting them in the incubator I will mark them so I know which are the oldest. The good thing about pulling the clears is that now everything can sit down in the auto-turner with room to spare.

I'm down to 28 eggs still in out of 51 I put in. I checked the eggs I took out and there were two with a blood ring, one with a very early quitter (maybe day 3?) and the rest were completely clear. I am sure of 18 of the remaining eggs, I saw wigglers in them last night. The other 10 were harder to see and I will be checking them again in a couple of days to see if they look like they are developing or not.

Thanks!! I was just looking for veins or dark area, ANYTHING! I won't pull them til I'm really sure though! Its been 2 days, I'll probably do a few more tonight.

I have started 3 Sebastopol/Pomeranian goose eggs. I haven't been able to find Max a girlfriend anywhere. I couldn't find anyone willing to sell just a few turkey eggs, so I bought a few goose eggs. I figured they are about the same size. Maybe they can be buddies.


Max still comes in to visit but he sleeps outside now.


He wanders off every day insearch of a girlfriend. He visits with my neighbors. Today I found him on my neighbors car.

But no scratches and I cleaned off the poo. He likes to hang out on the front porch and look at the lake. He is such a big boy now.
