March hatch along. My first incubation ever

I don't have a thread. I am expecting chicks 18 March.
I was thinking of never opening the incubator until its time to stop egg turning but I think I'm going to have to do the candling thing. Inquiring minds wanna know, right?

there is also a general March hatch a long if both of you want to join. I have 30 eggs in my incubator right now (also set Fri) for a March 17 hatch date. I will candle tomorrow and hopefully will see veins and a nice pink blob.

I do plan to add a couple pics but I wanted to detail my first hatch in a thread that I could always reference kinds like a journal of sorts!

oh I get that. I do the same. Meant to post in both if you wanted to chat with others that had hatches going around when you did.

Ok so we’re sitting at day 5ish and I’ve candled all the eggs for the first time. The data is as followed:

21/24 eggs are for sure fertilized and currently progressing

1/24 pretty sure is just harder to see but still making progress

2/24 I see a clump/ blood island but no vasculature formation so unsure on those.

Additionally 3 of the eggs are very porous and not ideal eggs for incubation but I used all I had to fill the incubators and they seem to be progressing without issue. Below is a pic of one of the barred rocks, some of the bluebell eggs as well as one pic of the porous nature I was referring to. #letsgrow

Ok so 48 hours in and I couldn’t help myself. I candled one from each incubator quickly. I feel like I’m already seeing the formation of the blood island. I didn’t expect it to move around like it does. In the video I’m gonna post you can see the island roll around as I rotate the egg.

No idea what I’m looking at here but very exciting

What happened to this egg? Did it develop?

I believe so. I have 21/24 progressing nicely. Another one possibly progressing.

Ok so I’m at a weird spot here now. I went from having tons of veins and embryonic movement around day 7 to no movement and very dark hard to see anything eggs at day 10-11. Basically just a small bit of light through the air sack, otherwise I can’t see much of anything. Oh well I guess we will see!

alright alright I candled again a last night a couple days later and it turns out it’s just really tough to see with the naked eye. I put them on there and it looked totally dark so I took a picture to send a friend and the vasculature showed up great in the pictures. It’s wild they don’t look like this. Anyway 9-10ish days left and I think we have 19 out of 24 progressing nicely!
