March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

Thought I'd let everyone know...yesterday was a horrible and tragic day for me. We had a coon break into my lavender call duck pen. I went out yesterday morning to find FIVE dead ducks and a dead Polish rooster that was in the pen with them. The survivors are in the house getting some much needed love and care. Out of the five that survived, only one was unharmed...the other four have puncture wounds, bruises, and other injuries to boot. Needless to say, I was devastated. I had been working on this color project for almost three years! I feel extra bad too because I had promised PugBug some eggs from them. I'm simply heartbroken over the whole thing.

Oh no! That is horrible :'(

I'm dreading the day we meet raccoons. I've tried to build my coops like Fort Knox to avoid it as long as I can :(

I think there may be something wrong with the one chick that has been zipping off and on for a few hours. There seems to be a yellow liquid coming out at certain parts of the shell. The chick will also almost "convolse" while trying to break through the shell. Here it is awhile ago:

Hmm, sounds like maybe the yolk sac was ruptured? If you want to help it this would be the time, but be prepared for not so good news :(

Alright, here it is now... Not sure if I really want to help of the chick will end up being possibly deformed and may die anyways later... I guess we'll just see what happens.

It looks like it might be doing ok, the yellow could have possibly been meconium but it's really hard to tell just with pictures. If it's still progressing I think I'd let it continue. If it looks like it's almost exhausted I would probably help it out. Sometimes they are just in a weird position. Just follow your gut!

So just took a better picture while Stormy was taking a nap - he always has to be right near me when I'm looking in the 'bator, and it's quite frustrating. You can kinda see the yellow stuff I was talking about.
