March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

Woo woot!

I picked up my eggs today!

Here's a picture of the Ameraucanas (and 2 orpingtons). The white in the upper part of the cardboard was to get my camera's white balance to get the color closer to what we see.

I read about people hatching grocery store eggs so I picked up the only "fertile" egg carton I could find at Nob Hill. I didn't realize that they are "jumbo" size... they hardly fit in the egg turner!

Here's a shot of the fertile egg carton side so you can see the date. I believe the date is 050 so by the Julian calendar that would mean they are 11 days old... I'm concerned that may be too old so we'll see if any turn out of that bunch.

Here's a shot of all the eggs together. You can see how much larger the jumbo grocery store ones are compared to the ameraucanas! The bottle of water was my test "heat load" while I was stabilizing the incubator. I'll take it out tomorrow. The official time they were put into the incubator was 9pm on 3/2.

Now I have to wait 21 days?!?!?!

How am I going to manage to pass the time?!?!?!

I'm just too excited to wait!
Wonder what they are? Interesting.!! Could be Brahma but dont know if thats a good production chicken It is hard to wait isnt it? Days seme to drag. so bad.

Checked all my Light Brahma eggs for every hatch day last night.
i only see a few like 3 look good at all and those believe it or not are refrigerator eggs heading for my breakfast table .!
Were in their a couple weeks at least Not saying they will hatch but one looks like there is a lot of dark in that egg.maybe not enough though but a week to go on it.
The eggs are so dang big i dont know how any chick could get their little feet kicking enough to even touch the ends to push out.!!LOL.
I dont get it .
Gues he isnt getting enough of the girls I do see him doing his thng now and didnt before but did find a fertile egg a few weeks ago...so maybe he was trying it out to get his moves right

NOw I keep thinking all the good scrambeld eggs i ruined by setting them!! BOOO!

I here you about the cold. Although it's not 18 it is 39 here in Florida. Just got back in from feeding everyone and my fingers are numb. Really hoping this is it for the cold here and things will start warming up.

I am on day 14-15 right now, and my eggs are due to hatch on Friday (or so I hope so!) I started out with 12 eggs and had 3 infertiles, and I think one is dead. So now I have 8 very good looking eggies. Compared to the last batch of eggs I tried to hatch (I had 17 and only managed to hatch one) this one is perfect! All the times I have candled, they looked just like the pictures!! :D I am really feeling good about this hatch. The flock of chickens where they came from was mostly delawares (COOL) and some ameracaunas and RIRs and barred rocks and a few mystery chickens!!! :)o) I can't wait to see what they all look like!!

anyone tried to keep baby ducks and chicks in the same brooder? We are using cedar chips for the floor. Didn't realize just how messy two ducks can be. Is there anything I can do to cut down the mess a little?

Good Morning,
Tarheelbirdy: Just beautiful chicks.Congratulations.

And sorry Brook about your hatch.I have been fighting the same problem.
The temp will drop a bit so I wrap a towel around the incubator and later in the day
find it is to warm.... We were a great 64 Friday and 37 right now.

OK...4 chicks this morning and 1 pip........3 black and a huge Blue.
I have a LG incubator and frequently have late hatchers...we'll see.
will be thrilled with 4
We do vouleenteer work Sunday mornings so will not have time for pic's till this afternoon.
Thanks everyone for sweating this out with me..=)
