My grandma gave me these eggs, which she swears were/are fertile, & I'm on day 21 now!!!!! As a Homesteading Homeschooling science project I did it differently this time; my first hatch, 2 weeks ago, I did everything I could diagnostically to make sure they were developing. This time I did the opposite!! I stuck em in, turned them like crazy, but never peeked inside. I have no idea if they will hatch or not.... out of 5 I'm hoping for at least 2!! I wanted to do this as part of the science project- simulate the environment of a hen by turning, temp, humidity, but don't get all techy on them & see what happens.... That was all fine until I have to sit on my hands now!!!!

I think I put them in at around noon when my aunt brought them over.... send me luck, hatchers!!! Thanks!!! I put my chicks back in the same room so the babies could hear them... I hope!! Sitting on hands, sitting on hands!!!

Good luck!

UGH, just had my first incubator freakout. I had it in the bathroom and when I went in this morning....silence. No fan. The incubator was off! The plugs were in so I thought the incubator died, but I quickly moved it to the kitchen (nearest socket) and plugged it in...and it worked. I have NO earthly idea what happened or how long it was off for, it looks like the socket no longer works?! I can't even turn on my blowdryer and I pressed the "reset" button so who knows.

The water wiggler temp was at 94.8, so not terrible but I suspect it was off for a couple hours. I do a daily cooling of my eggs for about 20 minutes and the temp only gets down to 96 in the water wiggler...so my fingers are crossed. Thank goodness I had two big water bottles in there to act as a heat sink, because the incubator temp was about 88 and the eggs probably 95. I'm going to leave them and see what happens.

I had no idea it would be that much of a diff, but it is! The odor is gone, no dust- great!

I just wish I could use them for my horse stalls LOL, but that would cost me a fortune!

No dust..odor? I have to try this in my brooder. Checking it out tomorrow!

Woo woot!

Here's a picture of the Ameraucanas (and 2 orpingtons). The white in the upper part of the cardboard was to get my camera's white balance to get the color closer to what we see.

I read about people hatching grocery store eggs so I picked up the only "fertile" egg carton I could find at Nob Hill. I didn't realize that they are "jumbo" size... they hardly fit in the egg turner!

Here's a shot of the fertile egg carton side so you can see the date. I believe the date is 050 so by the Julian calendar that would mean they are 11 days old... I'm concerned that may be too old so we'll see if any turn out of that bunch.

Here's a shot of all the eggs together. You can see how much larger the jumbo grocery store ones are compared to the ameraucanas! The bottle of water was my test "heat load" while I was stabilizing the incubator. I'll take it out tomorrow. The official time they were put into the incubator was 9pm on 3/2.

Now I have to wait 21 days?!?!?!

How am I going to manage to pass the time?!?!?!

I'm just too excited to wait!

I can't wait for you to candle to see if those are fertile!!

Each one of those bags of pellets is supposed to be the same as a bag of shavings. The pellets are definitely cheaper than a bag of shavings (at least here where I live. Maybe try it out in one stall and see how much of a difference it makes.

Where would you get them..not sure if you have a place around there called Cal Ranch..? I am wondering if they would have them here at that place, it has a lot of horse supplies. How much is a bag?

LOL!! My G-ma used to always have eggs/ chicks in her cleavage!!! LOL She's passed the crazy chicken lady gene down to me!! Poor thing is on her way to the hospital in an ambulance with difficulty breathing :( Congestive heart failure, diabetes, dialysis etc etc... I hope her eggs hatch! That will make her so happy :) She's too weak to get out to her massively awesome coop these days.

Usually bathrooms are on their own circuits. Have you checked your electrical panel to see if you flipped a breaker?
