Hi, it's be a waste of chicken eggs, but that's not as bad as a waste of duck eggs. I have a mule duck (cross between a domestic and a muscovey) which bonds with a hen and they try to nest.
He's destined for the table one day, but serves as pecking distractor for the one turkey hen who has set herself up as THE watchbird in the pasture (enclosed area is 1/4-1/3 of an acre I guess). Keeps the hen laying which is good for duck egg sales.
Still no sign of ducklings from any of the three muscovey nests. turkey poult #6 has chipped out a small piece of eggshell. #4 is almost out of the shell, #5 is almost done unzippering it's shell.
