March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

 Hi everyone.
Busy thread today so doubt I will be able to respond to each entry...............
Soooooooooooooooo  GOOD LUCK TO THOSE HATCHING.................And Thanks for posting to those who help keep it interesting :)
Also     :welcome  to anyone new

I have one more hatched. 5 so far.  Three blacks and one blue English Orp.....1 sweet little RR.
I have them in the dining room and love the sound of thier having conversations..........

About the difference between incubator and broody hen chicks:
I can never get near my chicks that the Mom hatched out.I do not even try anymore
I just sell them. The ones I hand raise talk to me, follow me around, sit on my lap and are much more like pets.
Not really sure if they are trained or I am...........      They are pretty well guaranteed to get a treat while I am holding them.
The upside of Broodies, for me, is watching the Mom teach those babies...........just fascinating..........and much less work for me.
Later

x2 :)

My hand raised chicks are much friendlier. I think it's just a matter of exposure to humans and the personality of the broody. I had one broody who like to keep her chicks away from me and another that let me play with them.

My incubator babies thought I was their mama were the friendliest though :)

Rox I'm with you- have no idea what I'm gonna do w/ all of them. DH asked me today " can't you just still talk to all those BYC'ers even if you are not hatching anything"

I just about peed my pants laughing at him! I said of course I can, but it's more fun if I'm hatching too- his response was "Oh" hehehee!!!

''''''He has no idea about the lemon cuckoo orps & SLW eggs that are on the way!''''''
Of course not, it's more fun that way! Me and my mom got all my chickens while my daddy was in India, he came home soooo jet lagged that even though we showed them to him FIRST THING he didn't work up the energy to do anything about it 'till 2 days later! Then he says, "How come y'all always wait 'till I'm in India to do stuff like that? I'm not paying anymore for any more chickens!" Which is why I just dropped $40 on feed and vaccines.

UGH, just had my first incubator freakout. I had it in the bathroom and when I went in this morning....silence. No fan. The incubator was off! The plugs were in so I thought the incubator died, but I quickly moved it to the kitchen (nearest socket) and plugged it in...and it worked. I have NO earthly idea what happened or how long it was off for, it looks like the socket no longer works?! I can't even turn on my blowdryer and I pressed the "reset" button so who knows.

The water wiggler temp was at 94.8, so not terrible but I suspect it was off for a couple hours. I do a daily cooling of my eggs for about 20 minutes and the temp only gets down to 96 in the water wiggler...so my fingers are crossed. Thank goodness I had two big water bottles in there to act as a heat sink, because the incubator temp was about 88 and the eggs probably 95. I'm going to leave them and see what happens.

Whew Close one!!!Lucky you walked by and noticed.

I here you about the cold. Although it's not 18 it is 39 here in Florida. Just got back in from feeding everyone and my fingers are numb. Really hoping this is it for the cold here and things will start warming up.
I saw on tv you guys are getting 30s...burr for you.!! Double burr when you are use to 60s.

I just looked and I can't decipher which one goes to the bathroom outlet. The lights and fan work though. I can't read my father's handwriting, haha.
Flip the main one off and wait 30 seconds or so then back on .Might do it.
Also if it flipped off itself will be in a different position than the others
Switch will be on "off" others will be on "on"..

SO over here @ the early morning In The Sticks Soap Opera - I nearly had heart failure when I woke up. Wake up, wondering when I passed out, went to the bathroom & as I was exiting...I looked inside incubator #1 & gee willickers, if I hadn't just peed - I woulda done peed myself right then & there...then had heart failure. The temp read 107!!!!!!!!!!!

I was raising the temp back after candling & apparently passed out from exhaustion. panicking I threw off the lid & fanned them. Only took out 6 random eggs -expecting them all to be dead- (Most of the eggs are my JB eggs & the ones I look forward to the most besides the few quail eggs that have been developing.)
all 6 of them were still wiggling about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now that will be the end of evening candling for this lady right here. These babies are all extra special now
I know the feeling! I turned on my 'bator and put a batch in right away without bothering to let it warm up first, 'cause I had it marked where the right temp was on the twist-knob-thingy.
Well, I go to bed, and when I wake up and check it, it's 105! I freak out and nearly start crying, but decide maybe they have a chance. I got a 7of 8 (not 7of 9

) hatch, plus they zipped a day early!

I can't help you w/ the weight thing, I never weigh mine- but as to humidity, I keep mine in the 30ish range days 1-18. I up it to upper 60's for lockdown/hatch. It's what seems to work for me...
Good luck w/ your hatch!

Hah! I don't weigh OR measure humidity! I'm more negligent than both of you!

So, I couldn't wait til tomorrow to weigh and candle my sizzle eggs (due the 10th, they are 2 days younger than the others) and their weight is RIGHT on track! They actually have lost 12-15% so they will be ready to undergo lockdown with the other eggs. Yay! I'll be bumping up the humidity to 40% since everyone else is right on track as well :D

Also got some more awesome videos.

This chick practicing his dance moves
I knew it! ELVIS IS ALIVE!!!!
