March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

I've got two days left before my 15 French Copper Maran eggs hatch. I pulled these out of my bator after 2 weeks and placed them under my broody after she hatched 3 chicks.
The chicks are in my brooder and doing great. I got 2 blues and 1 black from that hatch. They are so much friendlier than the ones hatched in the bator last year. Has anyone else noticed a difference in the disposition of chicks hatched in the bator vs. under a broody?

. I didn't candle this batch of eggs- candler broke so have no clue what's going on inside the eggs, just hoping for the best.. Strongs for everyone... Ps.. Wish here in SA the stores would sell fertile eggs that would make my egg buyings so much easyer..

I have to take Xanax for a deep cleaning my anxiety is so bad. Ended up getting 5 root canals, 2 pulpectomies, and a few fillings....and one of the root canals (this angry tooth now) was drilled into my sinus cavity and drained "hot tea" looking stuff like water for a week healing, and now that same tooth is the one with the abscess that is so big I feel it rubbing my cheek when I talk! Blah!! Am over the teeth thing!!!!

Lockdown Tuesday!!!! I swore to myself I would not get excited.....just in case.....

so much for THAT idea!!!!

Sorry I am so far behind!! I have been in wicked pain all weekend with a freaking tooth abscess above a recent root canalled tooth. Ugh!!! Guess it's back to the dentist.....AGAIN....this week!!!!

I go into lock-down on Tuesday, too!!

Well, I re-candled tonight (day10) and all of BCM's are duds. They were expensive eggs too and I didn't even have them shipped; I picked them up and handled them carefully. I bought them at the same time as the buff brahmas and they're all doing great so... My guess is that because the BCM's are so popular with the particular hatchery I bought them at, that the quality is slipping. Oh well. Next time.

That sucks! Definitely contact the seller. Did any of them grow or were they all infertile? I would expect the seller to replace infertile eggs. I had something similar happen, but the girl didn't know her birds weren't breeding. I didn't pay much for them, but I was really looking forward to the breed

I'm gonna break them open tomorrow to find out if they were fertile or not. Yeah though, this was the breed I was hoping for.

I tried to catch up on post, but I'm so tired. so if I've missed anything or anyone sorry...

I had a kind of rotten day in some ways, I was making batches of homemade orange marmalade for HOURS- so I didn't get to spend as much time checking on the small chicks in the brooders and this evening I found one of my TSC chicks that I got several weeks ago dead. It looks like it got trapped by the feeder & trampled! I hate that!

And today is lockdown on my call ducks. I went on & put all 3 eggs in even tho I only think one is alive- still not sure on the other 2, but we'll see.
The 2 frizzle chicks are ok, I didn't take them out the hatch bator until a while ago. I put them and a few other small chicks in the 'nursery' brooder together. they are so dang tiny! And b/c I left them in the hatch bator longer than I normally would they dried weird... oh well crap I think I'm going take a bath-

I am sorry honey. The three littlest chicks I had to assist hatch have all died on me. Even little Lucky who tried so hard to live....she was dead IN the water dish this morning. (Don't even wanna think about it) the others are already getting feathers in on their wings though! Freaks me out!! I wanna see your frizzles! Will you re post a pic for me please???

ok folks, got a turkey pipping. tomorrow is due date.

Started on my hugelkultur garden area today, about 1/10th done. one of my goats thought the seat on the riding mower was just the best thing to jump on and lay down in.

Maybe she drowned? Next time put marbles in the waterer for the first week to prevent any accidental drowning.

I'm sorry, hoping this hatch goes a LOT better! The ones that died were possibly infected with the bacteria as well, so don't be too hard on yourself.
