March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

Turkeys are doing well! Woke up and found 3 turkeys in the incubator wondering what it's all about. T

wo more are working on it and I'll just have to wait on the rest although I am pretty sure two eggs are undeveloped.

There they are..I was just catching up, and wondered if I would see baby turkeys by the time I got to the last page..lol..they are so cute. I hatched some turkeys once, just because..a guy that brought me some chicken eggs to hatch, threw in some of those wild turkey eggs. I remember looking down at the bucket and seeing this huge egg and asking, what the heck is that? I had a feeling he was going to say a turkey egg. He had three of them in there. They all hatched for me! He took the babies after they hatched. They were so much fun to watch. Big bellies at first, couldn't always sit upright. Had to help them at times when I hear that cute little whistle noise they make. So, it was a fun experience. I would have them, if I could for sure. Congrats on your babies!

I set about 3 dozen mutt eggs from my own gang on February 28, so hopefully I'll be seeing some action around March 20. I candled them all last night and saw definite development and movement in at least 30 of them, but others were too dark (the shell) for me to get a good look. Some of the eggs don't have a definitive pointed end, so I candled a little early to make sure I had them set the right way.

I just got into chickens in the beginning of January and this will be my second hatch. Last month I had 9 out of 11 fertile eggs hatch, but #9 didn't make it. Was sad, but I can't complain about that hatch rate when I'm using an LG 9200. Those babies are now 12 and 13 days old and I absolutely adore them.

Hopefully my luck stays good with this hatch, too.

Good luck to everyone else. I love reading about and learning from everyone else's experiences. :)

you should see the hens that laid them Cynthia. Got them last April and one can't shut up while I'm feeding if she isn't stuffing her crop. Talks to me all the time begging for goodies. Same whistle call you hear from the chicks but louder and not so nice, she also adds this decreasing call at the end which kinda sounds like someone letting the air out of a bagpipe.
The tom however is a nerd, struts around whenever I'm out there all puffed up with his waddles all red and drumming at me.

I am sorry honey. The three littlest chicks I had to assist hatch have all died on me. Even little Lucky who tried so hard to live....she was dead IN the water dish this morning. (Don't even wanna think about it) the others are already getting feathers in on their wings though! Freaks me out!! I wanna see your frizzles! Will you re post a pic for me please???

mmmm I decided this weekend I am going to learn how to start canning!! I would love your marmalade recipe!!
hugs.gif
thanks Peachy, it was so upsetting! I'm sorry you lost your's too. I hate for them to get so far and then not make it! And yes I'll post pics of the frizzle- well I guess really they would be 'sizzles' since they are silkie frizzles? Of that's what I've read, that if they are silkies they are sizzles... either way they are so cute and teeny tiny! They are way smaller than Sugar Peeps was when she hatched! I'm going to give them a bath today after I finish canning the marmalade. Then I'll take some pics of them... I'll give you the recipe, no prob- but I'm warning you, it is a PITA

well not really, I shouldn't say that- it's just very time consuming! I have a HUGE blood orange tree that DH & I planted 11 yrs ago, it produces so many oranges that I give them away buy the bag full to all my family & friends - still have a ton of them so I'm doing the marmalade so the rest don't just go to waste. Plus I cut up 7 a day to give to the chickens, they love it!

Never thought about selling it. It is too easy to make. Takes about 5 minutes and you have a few months worth. I just mix it all up in a little gladware container. Snap the lid on and am good to go.
Why not unless there is some rule as it goes in your mouth. Plenty of ppl want chemical free and lots of ppl are too lazy to make it ..(like me) HAHA Essencial oils...can you eat that? or just vanilla or almond some actually food type thing?

So nice you had a really great hatch first time out!!
Just beware as we all know here........ hatching is VERY addicting

Ye
Yes that is too low it should be 99.5-100
Just raise it a tad and that should be good but be careful when turning up the heat you don't want to get it too hot when I turn my temp knob I keep a real close eye on the temp for about 6 hrs
X2 but also you could have a later hatch if its been down some hours. dont throw them out too soon! GOOD LUCK!

Oh thats bad!!! 10...
My son just had 19 pulled friday b/c of needing root canals and some way too bad .

Brook do you sell the toothpaste too? That hand lotion bar is AMAZING Nothing ever worked so well on my sandpaper dry hands and finger cracks EVER.
Outside chicken maintenance and ice cold weather do a number on them for sure
ugh....well....we went with 2 weeks of HEAVY HEAVY antibiotics AND antifungals and we are PRAYING that saves the day. This tooth will require sinus surgery if it has to get pulled. **faint** How is your son doing after such a huge extraction load??

Thanks for the recipe Brooks!!!

I have one L av orp baby out and one star crack He is a slow poke as last night he had a tiny crack and thats all hes progressed so far.
