Oh NO! That is one of my worst fears. I keep mine in the house for the first week just in case, so that I can hear their distressed chirping if something were to happen.

Congrats on the rabbits!!! What kinds are they? Are they just pets or something else? We need pics! I have 2 myself: Theodore who is a 2.5 year old 2.5 lb Holland lop, and Ariadne who is a one year old mini rex/lionhead mix that I've had since she was born

My sister has a lion head named Darwin, and he is the cutest and friendliest little bunny ever.

He has never gotten mad and bit anyone. He runs around non- stop without wanting to be held, and my sister says that that is weird.

I had a bad day- woke up this morning to 6 dead chicks! Somehow my ecoglow got unplugged in the brooder last night, I discovered it when I found the dead chicks. so upset!!! 4 of my basque chicks, 1 choc orp & 1 frizzle. Even tho the heater was on in the house, I guess it wasn't enough to keep them warm enough w/o the ecoglow.

Then had a doc. ap, on the way home DH stopped @ the feed store so we could get our feed. They had bunnies in, DH said go ahead pick out the 3 I liked best! I got 1 male, 2 females. I was so excited

Still sad about my chicks, but this lifted my mood alot!

Oh sooo sorry to hear about your poor chicks. That's heartbreaking...

We have bunnies too....7 of them, and 1 dog, 5 cats, tropical fish, 5 chickens currently, 2 talking lovebirds (as well as their 4 x 10 week old lovebird babies, and another clutch on the way).....life sure is busy. Just love animals!!!

Jealous! I have two tanks of goldfish (comets & fantails) And a really annoying cat, and an also equally annoying dog and (now TWO chickens and counting....?)

I am thinking either a pure Delaware, or a Delaware RIR mix...? I got the eggs from a batch of mostly delawares with an assorted amount of Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rocks, and Ameracaunas. (as well as a (pl?) mystery chicken) I would love to hear people's opinions!

Her beak is pink as well as her legs, and her fluff is yellow (with maybe a little brown, but I could be wrong).



And a new pip!!!


My chicken, Hope, is a big sister now!!!

Woohoo!
Just did my day 14 candling, and had to take out one egg.
I started with 24 silkie eggs from Catdance silkies.
They were packed excellent, shipped promptly, but of course the weather turned bad.
It was -30 the day they were in transport, and -10 the day they arrived, and I still have 14 going strong!
I am more than happy with the way things are going considering the weather.
One week to go, should have my first ever silkies on the 14th!

Oh oh oh, this is egg "x" from about a week ago, now I can not really see into the egg much. I am rather worried given that red ring and how porous the egg is, it however does not smell bad.



What do you think?

Woah, I have no idea what is up with that egg. It will be crazy to see if it hatches. The red ring might be a blood ring. Keep it in the incubator for a while longer to see what happens...

I keep all my young chicks (hatch - 4wk) in my house too. I never heard them, but I sleep pretty hard too.
The bunnies I got, the male is lionhead/lop cross & one of the females is the same, just a diff color. The other female is a NZ/Rex cross. The plan was to breed them for meat ... Of course after we get home DH said I should have gotten 'ugly' rabbits since we're breeding for meat. I have personally never seen and 'ugly' bunny. And since the 'breeders' will be pets to me anyway, I wanted cute bunnies

Oh those lionheads..SOO .CUTE!

HAHAHA like me...I dont think i have ever seen a warmblooded baby animal that wasnt cute....even if ugly cute.!
Only thing about bunnies is they breed like rabbits every few weeks new babies. Bunnies coming out of your ears! (CUTE bunnies though.)..

Okay, my chick has feathered legs, which is not a quality of Delawares, RIRs, Barred Rocks, OR Amerecaunas. The chick has four toes, so that rules out the possibility of silkie mix, and the person who gave me the eggs said they had some mystery breeds, and so far I have come up with Brahmas and Cochin.

What kind of candler is everyone using? I use a flashlight but it is so hard to candle the colored eggs. I am thinking of having my son make one for me using a lightbulb and a wooden box like I've seen on one of the forum threads.

I have a very bright, 12 led flashlight that I use. You can get them from most auto repair places like Autozone and Advanced Auto Parts for $5 to $10, it has a rubbery coat at the top edge that holds in the glass/plastic lens so it is easy to get a seal on the eggs. It works really well, but I am only using it on Silkie eggs.

I'm still trying to figure that out myself. How come some to great all the way to lockdown, then die? My duck eggs did the same- had other hatches the same... So how many did you end up with?

Same here Eggs look good.day 17 ..and a friend even hatched mine got 9 out of 14!!!....me....1 hatches ....2....3 maybe tops I am actually HAPPY with 3!
Today day 22 and out of 6 one trying to hatch and might have to help it.I am depressed... I am getting so tired of assisting b/c is hard to know when . .Guess i dont want to think that hard LOL
