March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

I just found this in one of the eggs. What is it?

I am new here, this is my 4th hatch. If I candled that egg I would mark it and make sure to check it in a few days. I would worry about bacteria but then I am paranoid about exploding eggs, though never had one I am always on the look out for them!

Here's my first! Little Olive, a d'Anver/blue silkie mix!

Can't wait for fluffy pics, looks like it's gonna be blue?

My goodness Pug, you DO have a bunch going don't you! Mine is full of call ducks and dewlap toulouse right now... I hatched out nine brahma and cochin chicks a few weeks back but the hens have decided to shut down on me lately because it got cold here again.

So I've decided just to concentrate on ducks and geese for the next few weeks till the weather gets a bit nicer and the geese stop laying for the season.

I hate to hear about your bad experience with an egg seller....oh that makes me so ill!!! Anyone who's going to sell and ship eggs should ALWAYS do everything they can to make sure they get to the buyer as safely and securely as possible! I've had one or two shipments come in that could have been better but most people really try to keep the eggs safe. I'm just glad you left negative feedback. Some people just won't do that even when they have a bad experience for fear of retaliation or whatever. I for one ALWAYS look at feedback and if I see that someone's had a bad experience at all, I really take that into account. Sometimes things go wrong and it's no fault of the seller, but most good sellers will do everything they can to make it right. Sounds like this person just didn't know what they were doing or they just didn't really care...which is worse!

Anyway, I hope you have a fantastic outcome!

Oh my gosh you have call ducks! That's what I wanted, tried hatching some eggs. Got 3 to lockdown & they died- I was so disappointed! I ended up buying 2 mallard ducklings, they are cute but not what I wanted... I know they are supposed to be hard to hatch b/c of the small bills, but I just love those little guys. Do you ever sell ducklings?

And I agree, most people do what they can to get the eggs safely to the buyer. I honestly think this lady just didn't care? I did check her feedback b/f bidding. All good- but I think you are right, most people just won't leave negative feedback. So far I think this is the first time I've felt the need to do it as over all I've had good experience with sellers & the eggs.

just candled and pulled four cochin eggs that were no good but four were good on the cochins the 8 buff brahmas and the13 ameracuanas all had wigglers in them but brahmas some have some real bad messed up air sacks so we will see tomarrow late night is lockdown wish me luck lol

Krip & Wobble are doing well - between them they are a full functioning chicken!! Wobble was able to regain full use of one leg, the other leg however was not able to be saved fully :( but gets around great & so far is still in the same size range as her hatch mates. Krip has settled in wonderfully with her/his younger friends & is doing a great job of keeping off the bad joint. I will have to fashion a nice cushion leather boot for it's foot (twisted to the side so when walking it's weight goes on the side/upper area. I will take new photos of them soon & post I promise!!!

Today was lock down for the first set of eggs - 3 quail eggs! then Sunday will be all the JB eggs & EE eggs and then basically almost everyday of the month something will be locked down or hatching!!! I may just take a break after this month!!!!

Bantychicken.....Silly me didn't even think to click on the "bad egg pic"...YES! It's a quitter for sure. I thought I saw veining but when I enlarged the pic I now see that it's obviously stopped developing. The veins would be much more defined if it were still viable. I'm sorry about that...

PugBug....I'm so sorry to hear you lost your little calls. It's SO upsetting when you get your hopes up for something like that and then it doesn't work. Trust me, I've had my heart broken more times than I can count over eggs that didn't hatch. You are absolutely right, call ducks are notoriously difficult to hatch BUT, not impossible so don't give up! I've only sold ducklings locally so far but am determined that this year I'm going to start shipping birds! I would never ship really small ducklings as they don't tend to do well and often times don't survive the trip. Are you totally against trying to hatch more call duck eggs? Are you looking for a specific color or quality or are you just wanting some for pets? The reason I'm asking is because I raise a few different colors...My buffs, khaki's, and penciled calls are all show quality birds and I'll most likely be hatching all of their eggs, at least for now that is. But I do have a group of calls that are a project I'm working on and I could give you some eggs from those if you wanted to try hatching again? You wouldn't have to pay for anything but whatever shipping would be. Although I've had MANY eggs shipped to me, I've never shipped eggs out and I really want to start doing it so you'd be helping me out too. If you don't want to that's totally fine too. I really do understand how upsetting it is when they don't hatch so I wouldn't blame you if you were worried about it. Let me know what ya think and if you're interested, I'll tell you the details of color and type and all that jazz. I know for SURE they're fertile because I've got four of their eggs cooking now!

For now I'm going to try my hand at posting a pic or two of the three little buggars I hatched a few days ago!
