Start of Day 21 and I have 2 pips!!!!

look at all those cuties!!! Congrats on the pipping zipping & fluffers all!
I see that some have had some losses. I'm so sorry

I hate losing chicks- lost the 1st 3 quail eggs that went into lock down -they were positioned all wrong -so I pulled a few more eggs that aren't due for lockdown till a few days from now to try & give those little ones more time to get ready to come out.

So far - no much is happening over here. Got a bunch on lockdown since yest & only have seen one egg teetertot twice & that's it

I'm about to make a meatloaf because I can't sleep!!!!! & of course stuff my face after it's done while checking the eggs every 20minutes because I have morphed into crazy chicken lady!!!!


All this week things should be hatching & locking down & 'cooking'

Sunday evening placed 11 button quail eggs & 1 silkie egg in one of the bators!!!!! Very excited for those

1 Egg Pipped At Wrong End for 20 hours. Considering Helping it

1 Egg Pipped at the right end for 20 hours with little progress, it is still alive though.

Many other eggs pipped today but none look to be zipping.

Lots of eggs have no progress.

I would help the wrong pipped egg. They frequently need help because they don't have enough room to maneuver. I would also watch the other too...24 hours in my limit before helping.

Well, checked my "questionable" EE eggs today (day 11).... And nothing. Started out with 13, now down to 5 that are doing well. The rest looked like they never even started to grow after I cracked them open after confirming no growth via candling. Just runny yolk, and one with a little speck or two of what looked like blood maybe?? Oh, well. I will try a different shipper next time (mail order egg), not too pleased with 5 out of 13. Or is this decent for any shipped egs?

Hmm... I was sent 18 eggs. I tossed one on day 12 that had a blood ring. Candled them all again on day 14. Had confirmed strong movement in all but two. One had a shell so dark I could barely make out the veins with my brightest flashlight so I gave up on seeing anything else. The other I candled for about five mins without any significant movement. So, I am at 100% fertile, and possibly 16/18 still going strong. My air cells are terrible on some of them, so it will be interesting to see if they make it out of their shells on hatch day. If you are down to 5/13 on day 11, then that isn't great. But I know some people are happy if they get anything to hatch with shipped eggs. Maybe they weren't all fertile to begin with?

Lockdown count down for me...eeeekkkkkkk!!!

I'm so nervous for lockdown! I have 10 days till lockdown; this is my first hatch and the suspense is going to kill me!!!

Ok I have a stupid question... how do the days get counted? Does the day that the eggs go into the incubator count as day # 0 or 1???

For example, I put my eggs in last Saturday at 8pm, did Saturday evening and Sunday morning/day count as day 0 or 1?

Thank you!!!! Not a stupid Q at all!!! the day you put them in is zero so the next day would be 1 @ w.e time you put them in on zero. My button quail went in on Sunday evening 9pm so that's zero 1 is mon 9pm Tues 9pm is the 2nd day First hatch I counted day 1 as the day I put the eggs in!! Luckily for me all 8 hatched perfectly(minus 2 of the 3 that had been sitting in the fridge for a couple weeks)...just 1 day early

(I think they knew I messed up & were playing along. HEHE).............Speaking of fridge eggs, I again took a duck egg from my fridge(at least 2wks in the fridge) & it's developing wonderfully along w/ every single other duck egg from that batch, I swear my Cayugas lay eggs of steel!....... Look! Something Shiny!!!! Sorry I tend to ramble

That's actually how I feel w/ my ladies!!!! Everyday there are more & more eggs turning up in the usual spots!!! already up to, on average, 17 a day now(that I know of....sneaky girls) I'll be swimming in them by summer!!!!

Good vibes headed your way!!!! it's soo exciting when the pipping begins & zipping. The pip should be more towards the fat end of the egg. If they have started @ the smaller pointier end then you may end up having to help them out as it's very cramped @ that end for them
