March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

Just got done candling, all but 1 lemon cuckoo is developing nicely! Looks like only about 7 of the SLW developed (that was the box that was nice packaged well & the lady sent no extras. 3 were crushed, & she never responded to me) and only about the same of the columbian wyandotte are developing too. The polish & sultan still look good. So now I have room in the bator for the call duck eggs YAY

I have two hatchers running.....one with my Swedish Flower Hen eggs and one with SLW eggs. This is the first time I've done seperate breeds in seperate hatchers, so it's sort of become like a competition, lol. So far the SFH's are ahead - one hatched, several pips. SLWs are behind with three pips, but they're good ones!

I have my first three silkies ever!
Not the best hatch, but considering the weather the eggs were shipped through, (My fault) I am happy to have any.
So far I have two black, and one partridge.

Yay on all the pips and hatches! I had four buff brahmas hatch yesterday and last night and one buff orpington (pictures later today). They're the first chickens I've had with feathered feet, cool. So it's Day 22. Four eggs left, no pips. I'll give them a bit but my guess is that they're quitters. Three are mutt eggs so no big deal but the last BB egg I'm almost certain is a quitter and that's a shame. They took a long time between pip and hatch (like 24 hrs) and that one hasn't even pipped yet. We'll see.

Going up to the hatchery today to get replacement eggs for the marans that weren't fertile, free of charge. But we're substituting Wheaten Marans for Black Copper. The owner says they've got a better hatch rate at the moment and they still lay the dark egg I'm looking for (perhaps I'm not the only one who had trouble with the BCM?). Anyway, that's fine with me; they're pretty birds. So I'll be starting another hatch first thing next week and will hopefully be able to throw in some corronation sussex eggs too.

Lady, congrats on you other chickie-doodles!! Love the brahmas & feather feet. If none of your other eggs have pipped externally, you can probalby quick check them for internal pips & life. Candle, look for internal pip, hold to your ear & give a tiny tap to listen, etc.

Good luck on your marans. It does sound like you weren't the only person that had problems with the BCMs. Hopefully you'll have better luck with the Wheatens.
