March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

Ugh. Why does it have to take so long for chicks to hatch?! Lol day 20 and 4 pips. Wooooo come on little buggers. Two have small pip holes and two have HUGE pip holes?! Lol they need to hurry. I'm beginning to get impaitent haha!!

Still nothing! One Pip it has made a little progress with some chirping. But haven't heard anything from it for awhile but no others are doing anything. I have 27 that made it to lockdown. I know they were alive last night so I guess we will see??

I have been watching for your posts while I was catching up here..hoping to see that you had a baby by the time I caught up. :) No babies yet>soon then..I'll be watching for sure. Come little chickies!

I'm going to candle again tonight for quitters... Can anyone tell me what a quitter would look like? I'm at day 15 and tossed a bunch on Wednesday, but I wasn't sure about a few...

Hiya Banty...a quitter will have very light blood vessels, if any at all...(sometimes you'll have light vessels if it's just recently died) It'll look like half of the egg is pretty dark as if the baby is smushed up to one side and above it will be a section of clear fluid. If you see healthy veins and movement, you know you've got a live one in there! If you don't see movement, tap on the egg gently and watch to see if you get a little then.

Yes, the best way is to try and get some movement..you should see really good movement on day 15.

I lost the one that pipped. Fully formed and ready yo be a chick :hit

But I do have two more pips....broke away some of the shell. They look good, I doubt i will have anymore Pip. If these make it they will be an ee and rir.

They've pipped anywhere from 2-7 today, so about 5 hours give or take. How long should I wait to help?

It can take up to 12-18 hrs for a chick to begin to zip after making an external pip. After they pip externally they rest for the big event. Paitence is the key! Trust me I made plenty mitakes trying to help too early.

Ok. I guess I'll wait till in the morning. I wish i would have followed my gut and helped the first one

You couldn't have known. It takes some a while, some others no time at all from pip to zip to hatch. Not your fault. Those of us that have hatched for a while still have that happen every now and again. We do the waiting game.

Cynthia I know, ive read the horror stories but still sucks!! But I now have 3 pips so maybe by morning I will have a bator full. I still have hope. Thanks guys for the encouragement.
