March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

Our power just went out and i have 38 eggs on day 2. I put towels around my bator hoping to hold in some heat. i don't know how long the powers gonna be out. will my eggs be ok?

Mine went out for almost 2 hours a few months back and I still had a 100% hatch rate. I was such a wreck that after that episode I went on Craigslist and found a small generator (cheap) so that if it ever happens again at least I know my eggs will be ok. It does depend on how long the power stays out though. Remember momma hen gets off her nest every day to go do her thing so I would think as long as the power doesn't stay out for too long you should be okay. Maybe add a blanket also around it and shut the vent holes to keep the heat in.

Thank you. When it went out I put towels around it and layed a fleece jacket over the whole thing. I was getting really worried. But thankfully the power is back on now. I sure hope it doesn't happen again. It is really storming here and is a possibility!

Our power has done the same thing twice now. The first time it was out about 3 hours, 2nd time it was only an hour, but I worry that this batch is doomed. But they went into lockdown last night so we'll see.

I will be keeping my fingers crossed that you have a good hatch!!!!

I can't wait for this weather to clear up! The yard is full of water!!!!!

Good Morning,
Congratulations on the new babies............
Love the duck pictures.
I have one pip this morning and have to leave for about 4 hrs.
Proabaly a good thing.....I wear myself out on hatch day so maybe
they will get it done while I am gone.

Do u think fermenting some feed for my chicks will be ok? I put parsley, oregno, acv in the older birds feed -cover it in water. Oh and cyanne pepper but I dnt think I would do that for the little ones. After loosing the 2nd chick I'm super paranoid....I'm going to get vitamins and medicated feed tomorrow. Can I get cornid and vitamins at tsc?

I'm so panicky of loosing anymore.....

First hatch in March was on the 12th. My Ameraucana and EE's All blue eggs. 17 out of 30 eggs. Percentage not that good, but really nice chicks. Next hatch day March 25th. I hear some peeps. Very excited, and hope the percentage improves. The last hatch of the spring should be on or around April 12th. 37 blue eggs in each of these. If the percentage improves, we will be over run with chicks. Happy chicks everyone.

Final count 22 chicks.

Good afternoon everyone... This morning I gave Raine a sponge bath to try to get all the crud off from being stuck in the egg so long. I got some off, but not all of it, so I guess she'll have to preen it off. I also fitted her with a band-aid boot for one of her crooked toes. Pictures are on the thread I started for them, I finished that up too this morning....

Good luck to those in lockdown!

I woke up this morning to 4 chicks in the incubator, so that makes 8 total! One more is zipping and there's another with a pip on the side. :( he's chirping so if there is no progress by tonight I'll try to remove some shell to see what's going on.

Pics of the fluffies soon!
