March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

I only assist a chick if it needs it and that is the best way to go or if they are in distress that is the only time i ever help I do help the twins though cause it is two or three at a time and it is very tricky with three but I have done it by making their holes a little bigger so they can breathe thats all....

My friends house burnt down last summer. Her afghans were in there that her mom made. She lot her mom many years ago. Everyday my friend would come and see me crocheting and comment how pretty it was and how thick and warm. On Christmas Day she opened her present from me and seen it under the tissue paper and a down pour of tears followed. I wrote in a card telling her that every time she used it her mother was weaved and holding her tight. She can't sleep without her blanket now. I started oct and finished a week before Christmas. 10 jumbo rolls of yarn later.

so my first hatched at 11 am next around 5 pm i have 1 more zipping another pipped and 7 others. They arent due til tomorrow. When should i remove the first ones?

Well I went outside after dark to check on the pipped egg, only to find the momma hen on the ground and one of our 7 to 8 week old chick sitting in her box and on the eggs! I ended up moving her to the brooder pen w her chick and moved the pipped egg and the other in the bator, since its getting down almost to freezing tonight. I'll move them back to her once they hatch and dry. Little one is peeping away in there but no zipping yet. Nothing from my quail eggs yet that are due to hatch tomorrow. This has to be the worst and best part of hatching!!!

That doesn't sound right to me. Why are you having to assist them? How long are you waiting? How do you know they are too weak to get out? Are you giving them ample time to rest and build up strength? Are your temps a little too low?

I am having to assist because, usually, they pip, and can't unzip. I am waiting many hours. I know they are weak because they are pointlessly banging their beak against the shell, over and over. My temp is constantly kept at 99.5*

They can stay in there until all have hatched or until they at least dry. They say not to open the bator during hatching unless necessary, but I have and never had any issues, but I don't listen very well either ;)
