March Hatching Madness

WOW, I would love to see pictures of your Box incubator! What are you using for a thermostat? I am planning to make a styrofoam incubator/hatcher so that I can keep my turners turnjn' and my bators batin' and not have to stop for that pesky lockdown

Not sure if the pic came thru or not, still learning about posting pics. The box is roughly 2 ft square, I have it wrapped with a foil-covered bubble wrap kind of insulation. I am using one of those indoor/outdoor thermostat things, I just took the sensor from the deck outside and put it inside the box, this way, i can keep the monitor close by, makes it very easy to keep track of temps and I am all about finding the easy/cheap way of doing things. This is the end of day 19, I am getting anxious.

my daughter will be setting her incubators this weekend...not sure yet what kind of eggs we will be setting but thanks to some very generous people who helped us out...she will be able to restart her chicken inventory after the dog attack.

I finally candled fro the second time yesterday, it was day 12... I tried on day 7, I hardly saw anything, so I was really weary about doing it again... Well, i'm glad to report, i saw a lot of things. I didn't see movement, but saw big dark blobs and veins...this time i really saw veins.... So, i'm really happy...

Hatch date is the 11th....
9 silkies maybe 2 are duds...
3 orps I think only one on these is growing...
11 RIR I think 2 are duds.

i'm leaving them all in, unless they start to smell... B/c I really don't know what I'm doing yet!

First day of lockdown almost over, that puts us on day 19. Keep walking by and checking (looking through the windows) to see if anything is happening. We are so ready for some
