March Hatching Madness

Count me in!!! Count me IN!!!!

I got my very first batch of eggs in and set this morning at about 11:30 am PST. Hatch date for me is March 6th

I can hardly wait!!! With just a little bit of luck, I'm going to have my very own fuzzy butts in 21 days...give or take a day!

They're all mutts, each and every one. Well, there might be a few pure RIR's and maybe some BR's. The neighbor that I got them from has one RIR roo and about a half dozen RIR hens, one BR roo and again, about a half dozen BR hens and then a roo that might (emphasis on the MIGHT) be a Blue Wyandotte, but no Wyandotte hens to go with him. They all live together in the same coop...no separation of the various breeds, so it's a pretty sure bet that most of the 24 eggs I set this morning will be mostly mutts. But I don't care! I have hatching EGGS!!!!!

I think most of them are going to be BR over whatever, as the BR is the alpha male in the flock and probably gets first choice of the ladies.

Oh, and she also gave me some eggs that are White Leghorn/RIR crosses just for the fun of it, but I have no idea of how many of those I have. It looks to me like only one if the color of the eggs is any indication. There's only one white-ish egg in the whole bunch.

I'm in, just set my first eggs at 5:30 pm. 22 silkie eggs from my own flock. I have white, blue, splash and cuckoo so it should be interesting to see what I get.

Question: Do I count tomorrow as day 1?

Count me in! I have 18 "store-bought" eggs in that are due March 3, Another 15 due March 5. All of them only 3 days old when set, but cleaned and refrigerated. I got to see the [pastured free range] flock today. They are Golden Comets and Australorps. Some pens pure, some pens mixed. He has agreed to save some for me un-washed and un-refrigerated and 'pure' to set in early March if I will hatch some replacement chicks for him.

I love barter! I can't have large fowl but have a friend who lives on a mini-farm who wants a laying flock and I agreed to hatch for him. I know that Australorps are good layers, will have to research Golden Comets, BUT they are very PRETTY hens!

Hi Gran Gamebirdsonly, we have 7 babies and 2 zips just sittin'

I'm just about to set some eggs tonight. I got 18 d'uccle hatching eggs in the mail on Wednesday in porcelain, black mottled and self blue. The only mille egg included was broken.

The person who sent them doesn't know that bubble wrap only works if you have the bubbles on the inside so there were thin spots all over the wrapping. 3 of them where cracked. 6 of the eggs were sent as extras so I still ended up with 3 extras. I think more of their eggs would survive if they wrapped properly. I sorta want to say somethin' but I don't want them to think that I'm trying to be rude or anything.

Just tryin' to be helpful. Last hatch, I received a dozen eggs that were each wrapped in a plastic shopping bag with newspaper stuffed all around them. Not a single one was broken and it looked like a really secure way to ship eggs. 12 out of 15 hatched (Peep peep peep in the other room

). My mail carriers aren't very cautious either. Today they left a box of 8 silver sebright eggs with the clearly marked up arrow pointing sideways in my mailbox! They don't care about delivery confirmation either. I caught the guy delivering the d'uccle eggs just tossing the box on the porch!

To sum up my post, I'm setting 13 d'uccle and 8 silver sebright eggs in my Brinsea Octagon 20 Adv. due on the 6th of March. This will be my second hatch. Hope they weren't all scrambled!

I also have a broody sitting on 2 of the d'uccle eggs that I put under her on Wednesday, this will be her first hatch. She's so cute! We're so happy to join all of you in a hatch!

Hi I'm in. I set 28 eggs on Tuesday night, Feb 10th is day 1, hatch date March 2nd.

6 mix of Black Copper Marans and Blue Copper Marans - picked up from AHAPPYCHICK
6 B/B/S Ameraucanas - picked up from AHAPPYCHICK

I heard incubators were designed to work best with full capacity, so I added from my own flock, I haven't separated the groups yet so the roo is either an EE or Buff Orpington

8 Buff Orpingtons eggs - layed that day, there might be 2 Black Austalorp eggs
8 EEs all green eggs - layed within 2 days

Good
luck to everyone!

Update for 2/14:

Our mixed duck eggs are now on day 8. Even though the temps in the incubator are still wonky, we candled late last night and now have 22/24 developing. One was previously clear so it's a bit behind the others but hopefully it will keep growing.

We set our 12 shipped chicken eggs last night but we aren't too enthusiastic about them since all 12 have detatched air cells. We will candle later this week to see what if anything is going on with them.

We are headed out to the barn in a little while to candle the 8 eggs that our broody Welsh Harlequin has been sitting on so I will update on that later. Our Blue Swede has also gone broody now and is sitting on a nest but she is still laying eggs in it so we don't have a final count on her nest yet.

Well I tossed another bunch of eggs from my pullets last night. Down to 4 from the first batch.

I also bought an egg turner last week, so I had to pop out 2 of the slats to "lockdown" those 4 eggs, but the slats DID NOT want to come out. I am afraid the bator was open too long, so hopefully I didn't damage the other hatch.

I'll join in the hatch madness (forget about March Madness, no, I'm not a basketball fan

I got 7 BCM's from bargain here on the site, they went in Friday night (2/12) and my package from Chicky Tocks came in on Saturday - and went in Saturday afternoon... Got a nice package from her. Was supposed to be 6 Cuckoo Marans and 6 EE's, but I ended up receiving 10 cuckoo's, 4 beautiful EE's, and 6 EE/BO crosses. Needless to say my 'bator is full. Gotta love it!
