March Hatching Madness

Mind I f I join in? I'm setting 17 standard OEG's today so they'll be due 3/18/10.

I candled a few days ago....tossed a dozen LF cochin eggs that were clear. They are a young quartet and the rooster is still figuring things out. I think a few of their eggs did candle ok, so maybe he has the hang of it now

10 mille cochin eggs were good! 2 iffy that I left and will recandle
14 brown eggs are good, 2 were iffy (12 lf cochin eggs tossed and 2 rir eggs tossed as clears)
1 white leghorn egg was fine (I use those eggs for veining comparison because they are so easy to candle)

So, of the 43 eggs, 25 were good, plus 4 that were iffy that I left in, leaving me with 29 total. I expect to toss the 4 iffy ones tonight when I recandle.

Recandled last night. The 4 iffy ones did not look good so all were tossed. All others appeared good still! So 25 eggs left. I will probably candle once more just before lockdown to pull any eggs that aren't just "dark". Will be setting up a 2nd bator this week and setting another 4 dozen eggs or so. All of my cochin eggs, plus some rir and salmon fav.

Setting ANOTHER 43 eggs (what the heck! I don't plan for 43, it just happens, ha ha ha) in incubator #2.

Here is my countdown clock for hatch #2

This one has:

6 Mille Cochin project eggs (my own pair)
8 Gold Laced bantam cochin eggs (my own trio)
9 LF Blue Cochin eggs from my light splash hen
11 LF Blue Cochin eggs from my dark splash hen
8 eggs from (I THINK) my barred cochins (RIR or black Giant roo)
1 White Leghorn egg (White Leghorn x either RIR or Jersey Giant) for veining comparison (these eggs are SO EASY to candle)

Total of 43!

I have a week left on my 1st batch, so will start collecting eggs and will set in two weeks again. Planning on setting approximately every 2 weeks, unless I can catch up and start staggering hatches and using one bator for hatching only. We'll see!

16 Lavender and Split Lavender Ameraucana from Chicken Stalker

7EE's from Sonew123

For a total of 70 eggs. OMG I have never hatched out that many before. Bators are holding temps nicely. Hoping for a great hatch.

Well the fun is about to begin....This thread should start seeing lockdowns!!! I know I go on lockdown the 1st of March for my first batch!!!!

We are on day 14!!! No yucky smells and all looks good. Fmaily of 5 have taken a vote and all say either all 12 will hatch or 10. That a lot of little chickies for first timers! We are so excited!!

We'lllet yah know when we lockdown!!

Oh and I already candled (I know its too early) but I saw viening and most are developing

My husband asked me this morning "So what exactly are you going to get with our rooster?" I said "Hopfully frizzles"

I got up three times last night to just make sure the temps were OK. My husband thinks I'm going crazy, but then asked this morning if everything was alright. LOL Its going to be a long 21 days.
