Thank you!

Well...no more chicks yet. The little pip from this morning hasn't done anything else.

My sweet little chick that hatched this morning comes to the window and chirps at me when I look in..I think she's lonely! I want to hold her sooo bad...but I'm being good and keeping my hands away!

Looks like only one little silkie made it to hatch out of the incubator full of eggs that didn't make it because of the week long power outage. I have named she/he Miracle being it is the only one out of 42 to make it .

Only one of my purchased silkie eggs hatched

I had five of my own silkies hatch but one is not doing very well at all. It is day 25 and I poked a hole in the top to see if it was still alive. It was but the membrane was all dried out. I helped it out of the top of the egg and left it in the bottom half so it wouldn't suffocate and wrapped it up in a warm rag which made the temp drop so I turned it up, rag dried and temp shot up to 106. It is still alive and very weak. I gave it some vitamins and put it back in the incubator. I doubt it will make it. I don't know if I like hatching eggs.
I didn't know this one was going to go so badly. I have another batch ready to go in but I don't want to do it. I don't want anymore babies to die because I suck at incubating.

I'm sorry it didn't go well, but don't be so hard on yourself. You will get better each time. The next time to hatch, set up your own post and document everything. Record everything. Pics would help too! BYCers are very helpful. Bad hatches happen to the experts too, even to hens. Sometimes it just wasn't meant to be.
Here's a hug for you.

Now thoroughly clean your bator. And set up a new plan.

2 more chicks now! but one is yellow!?!? aren't BCMs supposed to be BLACK? Also, the yellow one was born with something green on her bottom...I didn't notice anything like it on the other two....should I be concerned? I love my little chicks!!

I have noticed that the chick born this morning is now pecking at the other two..especially the toes and bottom of the yellow one...even the new black one is pecking at the yellow chick...is this normal and how long should I wait before taking them out? The chick born this morning is so much stronger than the other two...amazing how fast they get their strength..

I read to use a red light to decrease pecking... the only one I found was 250 watt, too hot... so I put a red plastic bag (from Red Lobster) over the incubator; voila! red light and they stopped pecking.

The green bottom is probably 1st poop.

Maybe you got a splash Marans? Or a blue. I got some and was hoping it was lavender marans... wouldn't that be pretty! Now at 2 days old they are showing one or two splash spots. My silkies from lavender stock turned out splash, but looked lavender for the first 2 or 3 weeks.

It's unfortunate not many of your eggs made it, but wow--I'm so impressed your little Miracle made it! That's amazing! Good luck, I hope your Miracle does well and grows into a beautiful bird.

I'm just on the waiting game on my eggs. Come on eggs, hatch hatch hatch!

I woke to a zip... a little silkie, not sure if it's black or blue, it's still wet... and LOUD!!!
