Yeah, except OP hasn't been on in a year and surely if it did work there would be more to this thread

unsure that bit is right about touching the roof of the mouth. just a couple of drops on the beak or where there's a bit of exposed skin. in fact i think it may well work a couple of drops on the feathers if hard to grab the bird or it takes flight. i've had some amazing results and never opened a beak in my life for homepathic remedies...When I was searching Marek's disease I found 2 different homeopathic remedies/recipes at The Happy Hen House.
I thought that it was worth a try so I have been using both to treat my girl. She is doing better after 2 weeks so I am going to keep treating her.
One uses cranberry, brazil nut, garlic, and pomegranate and the other uses hypericum.
CRANBERRY, BRAZIL NUT, GARLIC, AND POMEGRANATE
Treatment:Every morning and eveningPut 3 or 4 cranberries fresh if possible if not canned will be fine1 whole Brazil nut, no shell of courseAll into a blender and using a crop tube put into the hens cropOr force-feed these items cutting the Brazil nut up into quarters to force feed to the henThis will be all the protein and calcium she'll need for the day.Instead of water put out a fifty fifty mixture of Pom wonderful and Gatorade. If she cant drink on her own you will have to soak a piece of bread and feed her that way or with an eyedropper. .She will need about five tablespoons in the morning and three at night.Evenings:Poke a whole garlic clove down her gullet with two less cranberries. This is a blood thinner. You may want to also take the opportunity to spray her with one of the pet store versions of lice spray.Parasites end up eating a bird in this condition alive, as they can no longer dust bathe.Cranberry juiceIs used to treat urinary tract infections in people - it acidifies the urine, making the bladder unwelcome to bacteriaPom wonderful:Pom wonderful is a juice for people. They sell it in just about every supermarket. No water just Pom wonderful - use one part regular human strength Gatorade per three parts Pom wonderfulI have seen Pom juice in my local Asian market. Might call around or make a shopping trip though it is not something lots of people in my part of the world drink, it apparently is quite popular among those who have emigrated here from other parts of the world. I will have to try it some time.HYPERICUM- 1 tablespoon of DISTILLED water per tablet Hypericum (must be distilled water, tap water is ionized and will deactivate the Hypericum)- MUST be mixed in a GLASS or PLASTIC bowl (metal with react with the water and herb)- drip 5-10 drops (bantam) or 10-15 drops (large fowl) on the afflicted bird's tongue. Be sure the bird rubs its beak together because the Hypericum MUST touch the sinuses (located on the roof of the mouth) in order to work- treat every 12 hours (morning and night) with a fresh batch- recovery may be as quick as 1 day or as slow as several monthsThe treatment works best if you begin treating early. If you delay treatment, the Hypericum may not work or it may be a very slow recovery. IF YOU OVERDOSE YOUR BIRDS ON HYPERICUM, don't worry. The bird will exhibit extreme symptoms, and make a drastic improvement within a 24 hours. Hypericum is also helpful for pain. Only treat birds that are showing symptoms.

take a walk on the wild side and open up to homeopathy! it's amazing. been researching this stuff for five years now. have saved so many c hickens i can't count. off to Indo to live with the rescues (by private jet, unvaxt pilot - took me 15 months to find). i'll be taking all my 1000 homeopathic remedies through customs (if they'll let me) as my animal rescues will continue there. already have a dog and monkey rescue in the pipeline ..... hypericum is amazing for anything related to the nervous system eg mareks is a good example. sad in australia that there are no poultry vets in areas where there are so many egg and meat farms eg south west region of wa. disgraceful.... why we're moving on not that we need vets eg my last dog live il 25. never saw a vet in his life. ate a great raw organic diet with many veg and fruit. This is a LONG post, sorry for this- but these recipes make my hair stand on end!!!
The person who created these is suspect in their chicken knowledge, and I find this first recipe rather scary. I would not recommend following either of these. Alternative medicine has it's merits, but these recipes look more like- 'lets see what I have in my cupboard and try to rationalize why I should shove this down my chicken's throat'
Why talk about cranberries and human bladder infections? Chickens don't even have bladders and they do not make liquid urine like people do. Cranberries are a nice treat, but chickens don't get bladder infections. Recommending cranberries to promote bladder health in a chicken is silly.
Garlic is a 'blood thinner' does this person know what that means in general? Blood thinner in human medicine is a drug that decreases clotting ability (like warfarin). Not helpful. Garlic and onions in large amounts destroy red blood cells- and cause hemolytic anemia. I can't think how anemia would be helpful to fight a viral infection. Unless this person also subscribes to the bloodletting therapies.
Hypericum aka St. John's wort- used in human alternative medicine for some depression disorders, alcoholism, ect. Also believed to have some antibacterial properties. Depression is not the issue with the Mareks virus, nor alcoholism. Mild antibacterial properties is of interest to me, but Mareks is not a bacteria- it is a virus, the birds succumb to progressive paralysis of major nerves (due to growth of tumors)- not a secondary bacterial infection. So I do not think hypericum is useful in this case.
Nuts and pomegranate juice I have no objection to.
The classic Mareks bird has progressive leg paralysis due to viral induced tumors in the sciatic nerves. These birds do not typically get better. If you have a bird that seemed to have Mareks symptoms, but got better with TLC, if probably did not have Mareks- it probably had something else that cause weak legs- like a pelvic fracture. Always remember the diagnosis is not made on looking at a weak or limping bird- it is a diagnosis on necropsy.
Also remember that TLC to a mareks bird is prolonging the time that this bird is spreading infectious feather dander all over your farm. If you suspect Mareks in your flock, confirm it with a necropsy at your state lab, start culling affected birds, and replace only with properly vaccinated chickens. The virus will stay active in the environment for years.
