Mareks experience needed. prelim results pg 9

I ended up getting a sprayer that goes on the end of a hose. You put the desired chemical in the bottle underneath and set the ratio. It had good reviews. We'll see.

Generally some of the birds exposed live. You keep breeding from the birds that do not show the effects of the virus......or you get a strain of the breed you have that is already resistant to Mareks. In my case I had to get a new strain of Silkies, but the other breeds I had developed a resistance to Mareks over time. It took a few years. There is no easy fix.

I would hedge a bet that Mareks is in almost every flock, some birds get it, some birds are resistant. I just lost my favorite Grey Pullet to Mareks. I really had no experience with the disease until now. I had a hen who I thought "injured her leg" about a year ago, not knowing it was probably Mereks. I recognized it this time and culled her quick, very sad, especially when it would cost $250 to replace her. My plan is to limit the number of birds in from outside and vaccinate all my hatched chicks. It's in my flock now, not much you can do.

Sorry, ddroland.
I culled the last three that were affected. They had tumors growing on their faces. And they were wasting.
I'm waiting for my Oxine, and will spray everything down. There's alot to say about minimizing the amount of dander in the area.

Well, I haven't lost any more, yet. I have a few that have the questionable feathering but they are 12 weeks old so I am

I am really sad though... I had to cull 6+ Swedish flower hen roosters that I was hoping to rehome but because of the mareks I couldn't

I'm sorry...This all just sucks! I had to cull my silkie this week for wry neck:( It doesn't matter what the reason is that anyone has to cull their birds-it all feels the same when you lose them!

I NEVER should have posted. My ONLY frickin Swedish flower hen rooster I kept from my first 2 batches has a limp today. I will inspect in the a.m. to make sure he doesn't have anything in his foot. I had to go to school tonight, I so wanted to check him but didn't have time. I really hope it is not the same thing
