Mareks experience needed. prelim results pg 9

I have my Lilly (which I am really suspecting is really a Lyle)

in the house now. She is still eating very well but worse as far at the paralysis. I have an appointment with the avaian vet on Saturday.

Well, I have 7/10. But one of the pullets is not eating, poo turning green. She ate some cookie crumbs this morning .....after this: I entered the pen and she ran up to me and very had a seizure. I thought she was doing the death dance. But after laying there twitching, she snapped out of it. Poor thing. I've seen a finch have seizures. They flap and flop around with no neck strength.

Unfortunately, I worked a 12 hr shift last night and another tonight and so does hubby, so the deed

will have to wait till tomorrow. I thought out of 10, I would at least have a few left. It doesn't look like I will.

I will never bring another living chicken into my flock. They will all be hatched here and vaccinated. I made a mistake 2 years ago and couldn't resist the white silkie I brought home. The only chicken I ever brought home. It only takes one.

It's hard to see a good from all this. But it does make my other chickens even more precious to me.

Talk about bad luck. I can't even get mad. I've lost almost my whole hatch of Polish. I order some more eggs, and get them today. The mail woman brings the box to the door-carefully, and hubby drops the box!!!!!

Nothing's broke. And being careful is no guarantee.

Thank you! Why is it always the sweet ones? I will let you know how the appointment goes on Saturday. This little guy is very alert with a good appetite yet but is thin. I am still giving the metacam to help with inflammation as well as possible pain he might be having.
I can't imagine what you guys are going through losing so many.

Yea, I know, it is always the sweet ones! And now hubby's favorite rooster will not put weight on his leg. Coincidence? I don't know. 8 weeks ago, there was a hen in that pen who had a "broken leg"........ right before the chicks started dying.

I still have 3 chicks, they are 16 weeks old. The roo looks good. One pullet is skinny, the other one looks okay.

I'm putting 10 eggs in the bator today, Polish. They will be vaccinated.

I want to list the reasons I KNOW the Mareks wasn't on my property before I got it from these chicks this year(as the seller claims). On the "off" chance the seller will see it, but hope they realize how we came to trace it to their birds....

I have hatched eggs for four seasons, mostly shipped, dozens of breeds. No sickness or illness.

the theory that my birds are breed resistant is completely baseless since I have grown out so many breeds I would have had at least some losses. (especially since when they leave they are POL(or laying) or good butchering size)

I got Ameraucana chicks from Paul Smith last year, not vaccinated. NO losses from those but their offspring has been affected. If they were "breed resistant" then I wouldn't have lost any of the offspring this year.

I do not go to shows, no other farms, or anywhere there are other chickens

There were NEVER any chickens where our property is, it's heavily wooded and we cleared for the chickens. No one has chickens for miles and there is no farm land for miles.

I agree, if you had exposed chicks/chickens already introduced to your flock, you would have had some losses. Esp if your flock had chickens in it under a year old. If you got a batch of chicks who had it, and your flock was exposed to them, your flock would have some losses.

What breed were the infected chicks?
