Mareks experience needed. prelim results pg 9

I have a JG blue hen, I realized that she had an impacted crop. She was sleeping in the nest, I found poop at one side and small chunks of green fiber that she must have thrown up. Realized how skinny she was. I treated her with mushy food and water. It seems to have cleared up. But she's not pooping really. I'm thinking another Marek's victim, wasting away, the food must not be going all the way thru and backed up. She's really not doing well. She eats but not enough. I am surprised by the amount of dander! Unreal. I just hate to admit to myself that I have another victim. She will be #6 adult that are blue/gray. I have 2 blue chickens left.

I need some opinions. I hatched 2 chicks, 8weeks old now. They were vaccinated day 1. But one got thin but was eating, then was walking around with her eyes closed for 2 days. Her eye lids were not exactly pink. I euthanized her. Her symptoms were like cardiac failure, somewhat different than my other Marek's demises. But it was at 8 weeks, so it's probably Marek's , right?

So many things can go wrong at that age, keep your chin up, maybe it wasn't Marek's this time. I think Polish aren't very hardy anyway....Seems they run into trouble just about as easily as the silkies do.

Still waiting on my necropsy report...found out today that she was salmonella negative and avian influenza negative...although that's nice to know, I want to know what the tumors were.....two weeks and still waiting

How hard is it to vaccinate these guys? All I have for a helper is a squeamish 16 year old....

Leadwolf, I think the hardest part is to keep everything "sterile" or aseptic. Giving injections is easy. Do it thinking it's your job and you're getting paid to do it! LOL. Your helper can hold the chick and the needle goes in to just right under the skin, and the amount, 0.2 ml, is real small. If you miss, just repeat. I missed the first time, (squeezed the syring too early). The chicks I did were never mad at me afterward!

Thanks Seminolewind...

Actually, I used to get paid to give injections. I was a animal tech for years. Give me anything with fur and I am good to go...never did poultry before! Plus, it's always different when they are your babies you are jabbing. I'm more concerned with the ability of my 'helper'. He doesn't want me to hurt them

All I need is for them to squirm and him to let them go, mid injection. I am not worried about maintaining sterility...I'm worried about the time factor. I have one helper and 40+ chickens to vaccinate!!! Ranging in age from 27 weeks down to 6 weeks! From Naked Necks down to Seramas!

Wish me luck

I think I'm gonna need it

He knows, he is just a sensitive soul that can't hurt a flea....

I've decided to wait and get some more helpers...I'm a little overwhelmed by 40 chickens in an hour.
