Peanut is a boy 😳 Butter is a girl. So that means 5 hens and 2 drakes. Peanut and Butter have not gotten in the pool yet so I will have to wait and see if having 2 drakes is too many. Gilligan does challenge the pheasant cockbirds already :th but I will be removing the pheasants ASAP

You should be okay. It's really an individual thing with Calls.

I am anxious to see how my 4 little ones do with my big 9 hens in the spring. I have the one Mallard/Rouen Drake that is happy with just his one Mallard girlfriend but I am not sure how the Calls which will be old enough by then to be interested in females will react. Time will tell.

I am actually thinking of hatching this spring/summer because I want another drake. My Runner drake has 9 girls and he needs some help. lol

I can see it now if I was to hatch Calls [my OEGB rooster has such a hard time mating mainly because for some reason he likes the LF hens and all he can do is stand on their back. He even has it rough mating with the bantam cochins since they are so fluffy, But he sure gives it the ole try hard as you can approach. So visualize a tiny Call drake trying to mate with a Runner a Buff or a Muscovy? I'm sure he'd try. lol
I have a flock of 5 chocolate runners and two gray call duck drakes. My white calls wouldn't let them into their "clique" so they bonded with the chocolate runner girls. Their "attempt" at mating the runners is adorable and hysterical. They hop on and try their darndest to get the job done, but it usually results in a frustrated awkward roll off the ducks back and a struggle to get upright again. Like I said, hysterical 🤣 😂 😆.

Is anyone else's call mating like crazy this time of year. Mine are all young (hatched last Spring). The girls laid a few eggs this fall and I resisted the urge to fire up the incubator. No eggs right now, but not for lack of mating efforts!

Thank you for this post. I have 4 small Call Drakes and 9 big hens and I was wondering how this would all work out in the Spring when they will be old enough to want to mate. I have one Rouen/Mallard bigger Drake but he is not huge. I didn't want my girls over mated and by the sounds of yours, they should be okay, lol.

Duck chores. ❤
