Mare's Illegal Cute-ness (Call Duck) Chat Thread!!

@Luv Ducks Yes, I agree. I have 10 regular sized females right now. If I ordered two calls what are your thoughts on adding them? I am concerned about size and also if I get two males, will that really upset the apple cart with my all-females flock.
I added my Calls right in after 24 hours of being separated in a look but not touch situation. They were fully feathered and full grown. I did have one of the ones I kept get a prolapsed penis, I read where if they are with bigger females they will extend it out so far to reach the bigger hens that this can happen. I took care of the situation myself and he is just fine. I had to amputate the end of his penis, about an inch of it. Some articles say he will still be able to mate and others say he will not. Spring will tell for sure. I have two Mallards that are not huge and they seem to like them the best. Mine are just fine altogether and now I have a new Drake that I got as a baby but they get along fine with him. He is young so spring will tell if he bothers them. My other drakes I had never bothered them before I rehomed them. I love my little Calls. I know a man that gets them and if he gets any females I might bring a couple of them home in the spring if anything happens to my older girls this winter. They are almost 8 now so I don't know how much longer I will have them. Sorry this is long, I love talking Ducks!!! Can you tell??? LOL

@Luv Ducks Don't apologize, the longer the better! I also love talking ducks! That's why we're all here, right :D. We need to find like-minded people.

Oh wow, a prolapsed penis sounds horrible! I don't know if I could deal with that. I already have dealt with a prolapsed vent twice and still have PTSD from that situation.

If I get calls it will be straight run and I'll probably just get a couple, so maybe I'll be lucky enough to get a girl and a boy, or two girls . I will have to think long and hard on this matter! Thanks for your feedback!

Sure!

You are most welcome. I watched You tube and saw what I had to do when it came time to operate. I knew if I didn't do it he would die as it was turning into gang green. Knowing that gave me the courage to do it. Having the 4 boys was too hard on my Mallard ducks as they would make a duck sandwich and pile 3 boys on top of one little hen. I was amazed at how agile they were and how they could stay up until I saw them and separated two of them. My Black Bibbed one was the ring leader so he got rehomed and another dusty Mallard one. The two I kept are Dusty Mallards and are Sweet. Good luck with your decision They are sooooo cute!!!!

They are very amorous with the ladies, if you know what I mean, but I have never had one aggressive towards me if that's what you are asking. I have 18 call duck drakes.

One of my boys has 2 full size girlfriends. He attempts to mate but he is too small to get the job done. Funny to watch and he is not aggressive with them.
Are your drakes altogether with your females and how many females do you have? Have you ever had them piggy back on one of your bigger females like mine did, 3 on one???? I was just curious. The pictures of those babies are absolutely beautiful!!!! I was glad to see how small they are as babies as I got mine full grown.

They are all together... for now. I have 25 girls and 18 boys! I thought it was 17 boys. I do have an occasional gang up and have a neighboring pen for naughty drakes to reset their hormones if needed. I have a feeling as spring arrives there will be some boys who live in the naughty drake pen🤣
I have also treated a penis prolapse by trimming off the end 1". He and his lady friend are back at it so no harm done and saved his life.

So sorry but do you have any pics of the snowy and pastel in better lighting? I can’t really tell their true color
Anyone want to hold a newly hatched Call duckling in your hand so we can see how tiny they are when first hatched. ♥️ Half the size of a Runner duckling?
Of coursssseeeeeeee. You’ll get all the pictures, even though my hands are super small
