Margie is unwell

Thank you all for your help. Sadly, Margie died during the night. So much for being hopeful. Just over 24 hours ago, she was perfect.

I don’t know if I should report this to Fish and Game or some authority in case she had West Nile or something?

Now Daphne is alone, but I feel like she needs to be in a quarantine anyways. Then, we will have to find a new friend for her or a new home.

Poor Margie. Clearly, your sister knew that you were dying and she tried to help you into the light.

RIP Margery P. Duck.

I’m currently looking to see where I can get her necropsied. I saw the link for the U Maine laboratory, but I wouldn’t be able to drive there today (Over 4 hour drive 1 way) due to work. Shipping is questionable as she is large and she died all stretched out. I am going to call the local vet this AM once they open to get more information.

The Vermont link on the poultry necropsy by state was disappointing. They (Vermont Agency of Agriculture) do not have a laboratory for poultry necropsies.

Thank you both. I’m definitely hitting brick walls this morning. No one in Vermont does duck necropsies? I’m waiting to hear back from U Maine.

Overall, this is hitting me hard. My husband and I tried to do everything right for Daphne and Margie. They were essentially pets who gave us eggs.

Daphne seemed ok at first, but is now quacking loudly for Margery.

I am sure she is upset and lonely Do you have her in a pen for her safety? Maybe put a non breakable mirror in with her. I have one in one of my coops at floor level so my ducks and chickens can look at themselves.

If she is quacking loudly she is drawing unwanted attention to herself.

PM @3birds they are in Maine and lost one of their Pekins recently and had necropsy done.

I would try to see if you can get a necropsy too. I read an article yesterday that there is a nasty virus effecting birds all over the east coast. And has a quick onset. And is usually fatal. I don’t think it’s avian influenza either. But can’t remember.:hugs:hugs
Oh no. If you remember what it is, let us know. I'm going to google....

No! I am so sorry :hit :hugsShe sounds like she was a good pet. She loved you and knew you were trying to help her.

When I did my necropsies, I gave them to my vet to send off to a university. The vet would know the best place and he can work with the guy who does the necropsy to make sure Daphne will be okay too.
