Margo is in Trouble

Pics
Yes, she ran across the yard just fine. But now she’s doing this... intestinal blockage?
Like worms you are thinking?

Just watch her for a while now that you are home.
Don't mess with her.
She if she is eating and how her poop looks.

And if you suspect worms, examine it closely and then get a faecal float done. I would expect a bird with such a heavy worm burden as to cause discomfort like this to be in poor body condition and not laying eggs regularly. My personal opinion is still that this is not worm related and I don't see anything amiss with the poop picture posted earlier in this thread.

The egg cycle is a daily occurrence so if she has developed a recurring problem like I described it would not be unusual for her to have a couple of hours respite and then start to show symptoms again. Poor girl! I might be inclined to place her in the dark somewhere where she can be quiet and work through it and maybe encourage her egg production system to shut down.

No meloxicam. What about aspirin? I’m inclined not to handle her right now, but don’t want to lose her overnight. Now she’s favoring the other foot. Thoughts on that? She still closes her eyes, like in pain, but so far hasn’t drooped her head down like before. She might, though, if she thought I weren’t watching her. She’s a good cuddler and I’d love to put her in my lap, but I’ll refrain.

Interesting. I literally *just* texted my mom (when she reached out to ask about Margo) and told her I might need to put Margo in the dark for a couple days. She’s at least having little bouts of light activity. I need to go bake the egg shells real quick for her...

There is no need to bake them
You can feed them raw you know?

Oh, really? I have a little countertop oven I usually throw them in after rinsing and then bake them all at 250 for 20-30 minutes all together (since I’m not sure I get them perfectly rinsed... also, the liner membrane thing crumbles better after baking.)

Not sure what the aspirin dose would be, but I did find a reference the other day that says one can use ibuprofen. Note that I have never used ibuprofen and none of my vet books list a dose for birds, though they do list one for aspirin.

I posted this in another thread:

"I used to say it's not supposed to be used, but someone posted this link, so maybe it can be used?

That says ibuprofen can be used and the max dose is 10 mg/kg (4.54 mg per pound 2-3 times a day:

If I were going to use ibuprofen I think I would use this - The max dose would be 0.23 ml per pound 3 times a day.
