Margo is in Trouble

I think 250 mg twice a day is too much. I think what azygous was getting at was if you had someone taking care of Margo, 250mg once a day during those 5 days you were gone would be much easier on the caretaker, which I think is a realistic scenario.
Prior to you leaving, there may be a dosage twice a day per casportpony’s research you can give.

the last five or six people that have been to a vet have all been prescribed 125 mg/kg twice a day. I can't help but think this 250 mg dose is just like the all of the other dosing misinformations (Tylan, Safeguard paste, Corid powder, etc.) where someone posted it, then people started using it, so that's what everyone thinks it is.

I agree it’s odd how Margo goes between a bit perky and seeming like she is dying. I’m wondering if she’s responding to the antibiotic, but is getting weaker from not eating and drinking enough. I was able to get her to eat a little more raw egg on the roost. I know it’s not ideal, but maybe that with the grass and a couple wheat berries can help her get through the night, if I don’t tube feed. It was encouraging to see her consume something, even if it wasn’t enough, on her own.

Hey, its a good sign she is eating the little that she does. !! Seriously that shows fighting spirit, and that she's not too bad yet, but still something is going on that needs helping.

I had a sick bird that if she at at least a half cup of food a day I would not tube feed her. She survived. She was very thin, but also inside the house, in a calm quiet place where she could rest completely and not be taxed at all. (It helps too if your bird really trusts you and is not scared of you as she was- even after tube feeding her a few times!) It was when she went off completely - like nothin' at all would she eat- that's when I stepped in and tube fed. It would keep getting her back to where she needed to be. I still don't know what caused it, but she pulled through and was free ranging outside by the time spring arrived. She was ill for about 4 months and this was an off and on sort of thing.

I think the being perky then seemingly dying is a big clue about what could be going on.. just what that could be I don't know, but she is showing some particular symptoms- from her leg, to the fact she's laying eggs and also eliminating ok, the way she hangs her head down... someone's hopefully going to see this and know what it is and how to help.

I’m completely speculating, but because meloxicam (anti inflammatory/pain med) is often prescribed for these oviduct infections, maybe Margo’s hunched stance is because she is uncomfortable and inflamed and she’s trying to get into a comfortable position. Michelle and casportpony may be into something with the ibuprofen.
