Margo is in Trouble

So I made the decision to continue her on the amoxicillin and administered 250mg at lunch. Kiki, please don’t scold me. My plan is to continue the full course and to tube feed her for fluids and nutrients. I need some guidance with that. She will read it if I’m nervous and panicky. I’m not handling her right now. Everyone else is free ranging and she’s hanging out in the run. She pooped and flapped her wings, but is pretty inactive otherwise and hesitant.

Have you been giving this dose TWICE a day?

If you're going to do that will you do it twice a day? I can point you to many references that say it should be given twice a day if you are interested.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this yet or not, but when using aquarium air line you need to melt on end a little with a lighter otherwise the edge is too sharp and could injure her.

Margot having her antibiotic treatment interrupted after just five days isn't advisable. Practice prying open her beak and slipping the entire 250mg capsule down her, then demonstrate the technique to your neighbor caregiver.

While breaking the dose into two may be better at keeping the antibiotic level constant, the convenience of just having to administer the antibiotic once is a fair trade-off to no antibiotic at all. It would make it easier for the caregiver in your absence. To suspend the antibiotic after just five days risks a relapse.

Edited to add, sorry Michelle, you stated what your plan was..missed it! Go girl. You can do it...Kiki let Michelle focus on learning how to tube feed so she can try to save this bird, lay off the antibiotic and worm references for a minute, this has to be really stressful.

The amoxicillin amounts recommended here in this thread are very different than what my vets have me use, what's in my books, and what other vets have told people to use, that's why I mentioned it. I would be interested in seeing the source of these other recommendations.

She did 250 mg yesterday and 250 mg today. Once a day for now.

I understand now.
But I don't think that post is a correct dosage amount.
