What does everyone use to mark their eggs? Are you suppose to only use pencil?
Thanks

pencils, sharpies, food color markers, colored pencils, I've even used crayons.. I stay away from anything that has an oil base like ball point pens or paint

but yeah.. pencils and sharpies work fine
(sharpies DO NOT penetrate through the shell like many people claim)

I've used pencils (smears and rubs off too easily), wax pencils, ball point pens, crayons, and Sharpies. The Sharpies worked the best and did not seem to affect the hatch. For my turkey eggs I mostly use ball point pen because that's what I carry in my shirt pocket and I mark them as I gather.

I use a fine tip Sharpie; I've had 100% hatch rates on marked eggs.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

Another vote for pencils: abbreviation for the breed on one side, and date of collection on the other side.

I use whatever I can find. Pencil, ball point pen, sharpie. Eggs that I put under a broody I always use a sharpie, because everything else wears off and just real hard to see.

I like sharpie's the best and they won't hurt the eggs.
