Marking the babies!

I've got seven Saxony ducklings that I'd like to mark. I want to mark male from female and individuals within my flush. Don't ask me why my reason is ridiculous I want to name them already!!!

So, how do y'all mark ducklings? I've had the little bands before but they broke, I was thinking about food coloring but that would wash off right? What would be the longest lasting, cheapest, safest and most waterproof way to mark them?

Non toxic water color paint? just a dab on their heads? nail polish on their nails?

I might try painting their nails, my poor dude ducks tho. Not sure about the watercolor, they dunk their heads in the water dish and occasionally jump in.

Yeah, I remembered that ducks get wet after I posted...lol "oh, wait...." Perhaps acrylics?

I feel like banding the legs is going to be the most reliable way. Maybe try a different brand than what you tried before?

That'll probably be best, but I had wanted to be able to tell them apart immediately.

There are colored zipped ties. That is what some of the bands are anyway
