Martha Acually raises several varieties of chickens herself! on youtube there is a video of her last show on chickens hang on Ill get it!!!!

Yes, she does, in lovely slate-roofed coops. She also keeps bees, they're right below her veggie garden that's surrounded with the most magnificent fence I've ever seen.

2 hour ride for me and DBF is an excellent NYC driver. When's the taping I wonder? Maybe someone could please tell her "it's Marans"

Did you see the comment on that youtube page saying that the Cuckoo Marans (sp?) eggs should be darker...the bird should be culled and she should get pure Marans from a breeder, not from a hatchery...? Geez....I'd had to have them for a boss! "You didn't write this report how I wanted it....OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!! "

I can understand the need to cull a bird b/c it has a disease that could infect the entire flock....but just because it doesn't lay the right color egg?! Hmm...maybe it's because I'm not into chickens for show....or because my flock is not how I earn my livelihood....dunno.

I'm hoping by "culled" they mean "not to used for breeding"...not necessarily KILLED
