Martinsburg WV Chickenstock Sept 24th 2011 8am- noon

Yes thanks for getting back so soon. I am impressed with how neighborly everyone here seems to be. I confess I never really thought I would own chickens. We had them when i was really young and the act of butchering them was very scary for a child 4-5 years old. With the act of removing the head and then letting them flop where they were dropped was horrible. It actually caused a lifelong phobia for me. But when you have a child you, as most of you know, will pretty much do anything for them. I just hope she understands this later on.

You are most welcome.

Times have changed a bit from when we were young. I was raised on a farm as well and had "Butchering Day." Now even vegetarians raise chickens for eggs. (Sold two Ameraucana chicks to some today.) People seem to think of chickens more as pets now too. Especially breeds like Silkies, Serama and Sultans. They are almost like people used to think of Parrots. Some people even have house chickens. I think chickens are raising in the pet ranks.

I may bring some started Sussex as well still trying to make my final picks on what stays and what goes

I have a year old Speckled Sussex pair I'm still debating if I want to keep or not. I love their look but It'd be nice to have few more pens emptied out before winter. I most likely will bring some of the started guys and girls. Deciding what to keep and what to go is the hardest part.

Hi everyone...I plan on being there Sat. but we may be somewhat late. My son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on Mon. and we just came home from the hospital last night! We have to maintain a scheduled time to eat along with insulin injections for awhile, as we all adjust....so having said that, I will be there as close to opening as possible!
