MARYLAND THREAD!

Greatings and salutations from the top of a mountain!! We are located in Cascade Md and looking to get 6 hens for eggs. Summers are great but winters are cold! Any recommendations?

We picked up our chicks on 4-3-2017. They did great last night slept off and on through out the night. Running around in the brooder I made for them today and playing among themselves.

Eating and drinking with no problems. She found some food I places on a wooden block and was eating it.

Napping in mommy's hand.

They are so cute its crazy! My kids are literally climbing the walls for us to get our peeps! But tonight we have to get our new puppy. Then off to Tractor Supply tomorrow for rest of supplies. Excitement in our house does not even cover all the crazy!

A new puppy and peeps with kids you will have your hands full. My dogs are age 3 and 4 years old and do great with our chickens not sure how they will do with the chicks yet. They hear them and we showed the dogs what it is in the brooder but not place them on the floor or any thing yet. I think I will use my puppy pen and put lots of paper on the floor then place the chicks inside so they can see each other but dogs cant get to them.

Ok..according to the wife, we are looking for Orpington, Australorp, Sussex, Wyandotte...she said they have to be friendly egg layers!! So now to the breed section to learn! I can tell this is going to be an adventure!

You have so much fun learning as you go. Just wait till its time to get your hands on a few chicks and you interact with them. They have little personalities all there own. Friendly as in hand raise them so they are used to you being around them and touching them. Its one of the best ways.

Hey guys! All the way from the little triangle county Garrett County! And yes, you still have to register your birds. They have updated the site and moved it here:

http://www.mda.state.md.us/AnimalHealth/Pages/poultry.aspx#Register

Usually when you purchase your birds from a feed store that is licensed, like TSC, they have you fill out a small block of information regarding your Name, number, how many you have, etc.. That is NOT registering your birds, The form for Maryland registration is here:

http://www.mda.state.md.us/AnimalHealth/Documents/MDA E-14 Maryland Poultry Registration Form.pdf.

The form TSC uses is a simplified version for our records to back up the claims of what the state is doing in order to ensure your birds are safe in regards to care and shipment and where ever the hatchery is located. The registration law is mandated under Agric. Art., Section § 3-804. Annotated Code of Maryland. AGRICULTURE TITLE 3. REGULATION OF LIVESTOCK AND POULTRY SUBTITLE 8. REGULATION OF POULTRY TO CONTROL AVIAN INFLUENZA. Md. AGRICULTURE Code Ann. §3-804 (2017) §3-804. Registration:
