Yea I am going to go there for sure. I just have a few chicks I will be raising in about a month. So I was hoping I could get in contact with someone now and get them sooner.

If you post on the Maryland Poultry Swap's fb page you might be able to find BLRW chicks. I got BLRW hens at the swap last Sept and love them!

I can not list these birds for sale b/c I 've not hit 20 posts yet - so please don't flame me:)

We are shifting our flock to Speckled Sussex -( just hatched out 11)

We have 4 beautiful Easter Eggers that are laying nearly everyday - and not little eggs either - large and extra large.

Have them listed here too:

Hey everyone. I'm going to build a large -ish greenhouse connected to my home and build the chicken coop inside of it with ventilation blowing in from the house so that I can cool them down in the summer if the windows and fans I plan to install aren't enough. I've draw. It out, painted up the layout on my lawn and started making contact with people on free cycle for windows. I've been looking through the many, many coop designs but wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions.

I have not seen your design but I would NOT consider putting the coop INSIDE the greenhouse. I would connect a new (or current coop) with a passage way and keep the coop a separate building. If possible I would even try to put it on the North side so it takes the hit from the weather instead of the greenhouse.

First minor issue is the loss of greenhouse space to the coop.
Next is the thermal gain during the summer time - and you feel you can control the heat with your a/c or a fan - I'm not sure that's going to be an inexpensive proposition.

What if you need to do house keeping in the green house and they have to be shut in for a period of time - heat build up in their space

What if there is part of the greenhouse that you do not want them to get into? How will you limit that?
Can they free range at your place or get fenced in? You could have two entrance = exits so you can choose if they are going in or out for the day.

Anyway I have a zillion negative thoughts on putting hens inside a green house. BUT in your case it might be the best situation. Also I'm thinking of a largish size flock - if only a couple of birds you may be able to keep them comfortable year round in their glass house:)

just my nickels worth.....

Hi Marylanders! I am hoping to find some fellow fanciers that live in or near Washington County that would be interested in increasing their flock. I have several hens that have just turned 1 year old and are laying great and are very spoiled and healthy. I have 2 of about 10 different breeds. I love my birds and would like to see them go to a lovable home. I have way too many eggs and am just wanted to decrease my flock some. I had 4 hens go broody over the winter so I have way more than planned. If interested please let me know. Thanks.

Sold the girls today....

Is anyone interested in Speckled Sussex or Wheaten Ameracauna? We are getting ready to load the incubator again soon.
Will have to sell as straight run for now.

Is there someone that can teach me how to 'vent sex' the little ones?

Is anyone interested in joining myself and other person in the purchase of certified organic whole grains from PA?
We have a hammermill and grind our own mix. Yes, it can be a lot more work BUT what they eat so will we!
I am headed to PA on Tuesday to pick up a ton of mixed grains with my truck/trailer. My friend is headed to VA to get the other ingredients (kelp and micro nutrients).

Grain comes in 50# sacks

The more we buy the less cost per unit and splitting the cost of transportation is not cheap. Fuel is over $4/gallon and my truck gulps when under a load like this.

We have a spread sheet for mixing volume if you need help.

Nothing like fresh ground for the highest nutrient value - and certified organic means only the best for us when it's my turn in the food chain.
