Mash, Pellets or Crumbles? Poll!

I prefer whole grains. I feed my chickens a combination of whole corn, cracked corn, hulled sunflower seed and a wild bird seed mix. Their absolute favorite is premium finch seed which I feed in a separate bowl. They also get sprouted wheat and are free range at least 8 months a year. I have a lot of very old healthy chickens. My chickens will not eat pellets. They will eat some game bird crumble if it is mixed with finch seed.

I feed my girls feed with hot water on it to make a mash, they love it, its like a chicken version of oatmeal.

I prefer an "Other" - Scratch and Peck which is mainly whole grains which my birds love. It is also non GMO.

However I have to drive out of my way to get it and can't always make the trip when the bag is low. If I don't have the time,I get the crumbles at my local feed store which is what the girls seem to prefer over the pellets.

I have fed both at one point or other to my birds. They seemed to wast the pellets more than the crumble. I use a 40lb round feeder with settings for the feed pan that allows for better flow. The pellets seemed to flow better on the deeper setting but there was more in the tray and I think this was what allowed them to throw it on the ground. With crumble I can set it shallower and they don't waste it as much.

I use crumbles for hens because its more easier to digest then crumbles

I am really interested in this fermenting process, but I am not by any means Paula Deen or Betty Crocker. I don't know my way around measurements and I don't understand "a dollop" or "part of a bucket". I would like some hard fast measurements of how much and of what goes into it. Even more embarassing is that my father was a career dietitian. I burn water. Cou/d somebody please direct me to the easiest to understand method of fermenting that there is. I would appreciate it very much and thank you.

I have crumble, because it is what my multi purpose feed comes in. I have had pellets here too which i do agree are less wasteful BUT i cannot get a multi flock in pellet and i was going nuts with separate feeds, so i'll take a crumble lol

My Silkies find it easier to eat crumbles and it looks more... chicken foodish! Pellets aren't as messy though.
