I did have my flock on pellets for a long time but there was so much waste, they seemed to get bored of lack of variety and just leave it lying in the dirt. Since I switched them to a layer grain mix they are much happier. When they were chicks I made my own crumble which included oats and millet.

I use pellets. I read somewhere that crumbles are just basically crushed up pellets. That in mind, when the bag gets near empty, I mix the 'dust' with cooked oatmeal & yoghurt. It really tastes quite good !

The only thing you have to be careful of is getting killed in the stampede.......Sue

Whatever is on sale? Lol, well sometimes. But mostly we are dedicated Purina Mills people. Certainly we used crumbles earlier on until the first egg, then transitioned rather quickly to layer pellets. We are relatively new to poultry care, so truth be told I really couldn't tell you why we switched.

Pellets. Its what I've always done, and what I always will do. Plus, its cheaper.

I use mash come on 100# for 20$ can't beat that it from local mill. Our tsc is 50# for same price. They seem to love it I have grower finisher and mix with cc

My hens make a mess of crumbles. The crumbles always end up spread all over the coop floor and getting soiled. For this reason, I prefer pellets.
