I was wondering about all those other things(snakes, monators ect..). Poor Ducks! Where is P.E.T.A.!!!! Probably at a dogshow releasing dogs to freedom. I wish I could help.

The wildlife lady said that most were sick or injured. If the bad ones are not taken care of then the good ones will become ill as well. I mean if they were just killing them to be killing them it would be one thing, but if they removed the sick and injured ones it would make the whole flock healthier.

I agree with killing injured or sick ones, because you are right about it making a healthier flock, however florida isn't going to just kill sick and injured, they are planning on kill them all, including the healthy ones. I think that is why people are getting upset over the whole matter.

Best course, since nothing has been approved yet, is that if you are close and want to take some ducks, contact the city.
These are domestic ducks abandoned in a public park.
Approach it that way and see if they will have an adoption day where people can take them as pets.

Its like those canada geese that take over and make the entire parks poop palaces.

I wouldnt let it get to you. Ducks are in no danger of suffering a population decline from a moderate culling. Even if it is THIS entire population at the park, there will be more wild ducks that will return, and most likely more domesticated ones as well.

I think every one who can should go to flordia on the day that they are going to put them down.. Catch some and take them home. They shouldnt mind.. If they dont want them there any way. If any thing. They could process them for food and let homeless people have the meat.. Some people have no brain at all.. They could do a round up just like the wild horses and rehome them. Keep some ducks there. And every few years, thin them, but dont kill them..

well i don't agree but most are sick and injured. That breed is not native to Florida so they wont release them in the wild. It sucks cause we have them at the lake near my house and they are very sweet. The place they are talking about is contaminated because of the poop. I would prefer sterilizing them but it aint gonna happen. This is why people should never release non native animals into the wild. It's tragic all the way around!!!

If they are sick they should not be processed. That's just asking for more problems. The problem with rehoming non native species is that the people taking them won't take care of the animals and just release them again anyway. You should see all the released pets that have become nuisance species in Florida, especially in the Everglades. And they are competing with the native species, so it's ok that the ducks survive, but not the native species? They should just stick a couple of gators in that lake. That'll keep the population done in a more natural way.
